Life

Life – a Puzzle!
More – a Riddle! !
A hard nut to crack!
An Ocean Deep with swirls and twists! !

Has anyone seen it in length and breadth?
Has it ever taken the course we designed?

Like the travellers within a Phantom ship,
We sail past to far unknown lands.
Through rugged waves, we drift along,
Either to perish or to be cast ashore.

So elusive, Life remains,
Like the mirage over the stretch of sands.
Often it seems so easily within reach
But far, it recedes out of grip.

Like a juggler, performing tricks,
It holds people to watch and wonder.

Acrostic Poems

Earthquakes:

E-arth shudders on its hinge
A-ll experience that terrific punch
R-oads crack and traffic stops
T-remors rock and havoc wreaks
H-orror strikes and rubble heaps
Q-uest to save the trapped turns in vain
U-nder the rubble, men scream in pain
A-fter shocks and seismic waves,
K-illing thousands, the disaster leaves.
E-ngulfing gloom swallows the Earth
S-ky high dreams, shattered in death!

Ghost:

G-hastly noises heard around
H-aunted houses with thickets surround
O-ld castles where mysteries abound

The Outcast

It rained on and on.
The fire in the hearth had long died out.
Hunger grew,
Frustration raged.

Vultures swooped down to feed on flesh.
Half willing, half resenting,
Surrendered, rather Subdued,
Desire spilled over,
Waves surging past the log.

Passion spent,
Hunger appeased,
Purse strings loosened,
And silver coins tinkled.

Amply paid,
The toil not wasted!

The reel of Time unwound itself,

Fog

On a cold December dawn
Came the Fog, riding down
With long fleecy beard in white
And wavy hair so thin and light.

When he arrived all at once
Speeding vehicles blinked their eyes
Slithering down through narrow lanes,
They honked the horns on all the curves.

Housetops stood in hazy mist
No one out to jog with zest
Sheep in pens were still in rest
Bulbs lay dormant under the crust.

The air was full of snowy frost
The ships were bleary over the coast
They skimmed the waters without haste
Their flags fluttering on the mast

By the Sea side

Staying by the sea, now at sunset
With the light slowly fading into greyness
And the waters lying quiet
A peace fills me as never before
Dismal fears barred entry into the soul
And mind freed of all disquietude.
Through the soft whisper of waves
A low sweet melody finds its way.
Listening to the gentle sibilance of the sea,
A new insight suddenly dawns on me
None but we are to blame
For all our angry bickerings.
With all swirls and whirls underneath
Is an abstruse calm in the deep
In this continuum of flux
Is a permanence - abiding and perpetual.

Staying by the sea at sunset
With its still waters glimmering in twilight
And the stray clouds straggling in the sky,

A Lament

I know, I grow old….. I grow old
When silver threads peek in my head.
The flush on radiant cheeks wanes,
And a pallid tint creeps unseen.
Fading years have robbed the ardour
And a rigid sobriety sinks and settles.
I hear the howl of autumn winds,
That come to shake off the yellowing leaves.
Dragging tired feet through pavements
I try in vain to keep pace with the young.
Mind grows annoyed and distressed
As the bones beneath the skin go brittle.
The weary body spins rugged,
Like a rusted machine never overhauled.
The soul grows mutinous over things unknown
And reasons hard to trace.......!
There is a tumult in my silence
Like the undercurrents of calm waters.
Through miles on dreary miles of gloom
That stretch out before the eyes, endless,

Friendship

Friendship - a seamless sky
Far too complex to gauge or delve.
At times like the early rays of morn
It fills one with joy.
At times like a gentle breeze
It cuddles and cossets.
At times like dark clouds
It overcasts the mind.
At times it comes blowing like a gale
Sweeping us off our feet.
At times it sprouts like a seedling
Growing out into a tree, giving shade.
It blossoms like a Night Queen
Diffusing in the air, a heady scent.
At times like the plaintive notes from a flute
It saddens the soul.
Like a rainbow it may swiftly vanish
Or remain like a beacon
Guiding us when storms rage.

The River

The river looking like a silver strip,
Comes down from mountain slopes,
She flows over plains and fields,
And moves towards the oceans vast.

On her shores cultures grew,
Long ago they thrived and perished.
On her banks, history sleeps,
Of valiant men who dared and won.

She carries people in barges and boats,
And ferries them over tides and waves,
In her coolness, children splash,
Grown ups dive and fishes breed.

She wets the land and tends the plants,
She quenches the thirst and cleanses the filth,
She lets the fishermen live on her,
She gets the birds feed for them,

How I Wish

How my mind, as that of a child
Frivolous and foolish, seeks solace
In a fictitious world of make believe
While reality, like a fiend stares right on my face!

Waiting for none, the globe continues to spin
And seasons arrive and depart without default
Yet how I wish to think,
With my exit, the world will come to an abrupt halt

When I am gone and lie cold under the sod
And my memory no more lingers
How I wish to feel
My absence continually injures

Gains and losses when added up
Weighs equal on life's dispassionate balance
Yet how I wish to boast
With success alone, I ever had my alliance

Straggler

Decked in floral wreaths and crown
as I lay in state among family and friends
with my spirit wading through strands forlorn
where lamps shone bright in celestial gleam
bordering a land of bliss out of mortal reach
where neither canker blights, nor flowers wilt
where sorrow never enters and all shall be blest
where each head like the sun aureoled
where God in all His glory doth reign
I saw through my slumber deep, as through a veil
my loved ones grieving great, my journey
unreturned to an untravelled land.
There was crying and whining, sighing and sobbing
in stirring memory of days in all goodness spent
and of bonds stretching beyond life's rim
which set me feel sick of where I was and where I wasn't
so fain to go, so fain to stay,
like a spinning midge,
my spirit veered high and low
between Heaven and Earth
