Thoughts for Today

Blue sky thinking grey sky mind
Lost dimensions hard to find
Daytime dreams nightmare nights
Silent prayers and noisy fights

Outside box and inside dealing
Pure of thought or simply stealing
Fast lane sprint or slow lane creeping
Lie awake or waste time sleeping

Life see's changes death see's sorrow
Raise you daylight see's tomorrow
Thoughts surrounded mind let wander
Food for thought with time to ponder

All entrenched in thoughts of all
Strong, the weak, the short, the tall.
No escape but death can alter
From such paths should you so falter.

Behind the smile

Is that smile that you wear, for me or for you?
If i'm thinking it then surely you maybe to?
Is it to say hello and you mean it?
Or because you feel bad if we haven't all seen it?
When light disappears and you lay in your bed
Does your smile haunt you so it plays games with your head?
For behind every smile is a world full of thought
As we put up that front and try not to get caught
So give me a face that says it's really me
For only I know how you're meant to be,
See, behind every smile is a thought otherwise
Never in sight yet the perfect disguise...

A Soldier Blue

A soldier blue once walked past me
With flag and gun for all to see
Shouts i hurrah for you are brave
Our King and country you will save

But as he marched i noticed that
Beneath his hardened soldiers hat
An empty stare that held the thought
Of all the horrors battle brought

He marched a line so straight and true
With comrades also dressed in blue
A sense of pride we all could feel
As on they marched from toe to heel

But as they disappeared from view
Their colours flying proud and true
Thought i of soldier blue once more
His stare that told the truth of war.

The Sound Of War

When all the bombs are silenced
When all the dust has died
When all the planes of violence
Are stored all safe inside

When all the crumbled buildings
Just teeter on the brink
When water lies in every street
Yet none is fit to drink

When politicians preaching
Of peace and healing sores
Just fail to see they're teaching
The young to fight in wars

When rhetoric and violence
Are met with with much the same
The guns will not be silenced
The killing still remains.

I Am No Poet

A poet... oh i am? , says I,
Perhaps it's what you think
Just mixed up words of life I cry
Like someone on the brink

Mere words assembled in a row
From thoughts a few of many
labelled then a poet so
Though none worth but a penny

I speak as though my mind should find
My head in quite a spin
With rhymes and verse a peace I find
That life could ne'er begin

That label sticks and holds me back
A form I have to follow
A fear of literary attack
Can leave my words quite hollow

The 'I Will Do It

The life of the 'i will do it'
Is invariably busy all day,

For if something in life is required
'I will do it' will make it Ok.

When most of us stand looking simple,
Scratch our heads.. looking puzzled and glum,

'I will do it' just heads for the action,
and you know it will always be done.

From walking the dog in the morning,
To rocking the baby to sleep,

'I will do it' will never need asking,
And appointments they always will keep,

So next time you need something doing,
and your mind wonders off from the task,

The wise man

A wise man listens more than speaks
A problem he can halve
Do months of work in less than weeks
And make the saddest laugh

He uses brains to conquer brawn
Sheds light on darkest times
And seldom is 'to manor born'
His speech the sweetest rhymes

But who will listen when he's down?
When answers aren't forthcoming
When he is wearing frightful frown
His head so full and humming'

My guess.. the wise man stops to think
He weighs up all the odds
And never ventures to the brink
Like many selfish God's

Dreams

In dreams I've won a million races
Fought with dragons slayed them dead
Played the game with all the aces
Taken all the praise as read

Dreams have seen me star in movies
Leading ladies swoon at will
Everything I touch seems groovy
Never had a dream off ill.

Hero, master, greatest leader
Just you name it I am he
In my dreams no life is sweeter
All the cards are held by me

So why wake and spoil illusions?
Join in life's reality
All it's pain and sheer confusion
Always haunting you and me

The Lazy River

Fresh, inspiring, silent, thoughtful
Overwhelming strength and beauty
Haven to the smallest creature
Coping well as is her duty

River has a tale for telling
Should you wish to hear it told
Silent Witness in our lifetime
Many secrets she must hold.

Flowing onwards never hampered
From her course with destiny
Majestic strength and inner calling
Knowing where she wants to be

So I sit beside her thoughtful
Mindful of my own existence
Taking time to understand her
and her path of least resistance

Xmas

Dont stumble little Donkey please
dont stumble lest you fall
Your load so precious take your ease
Walk straight and true and tall

Behold this day of wonderment
Behold a guiding star
that lights the way that you've been sent
And guides you from afar

Your weary bones may tire and creak
Though you must venture on
For Mary is with child so meek
Your job it must be done

You reach the stable harsh and wild
While straw now makes your bed
There cries in Crib a special child
Lays down his gentle head.
