The Great and The Good

Matters arising in this meeting
To whom it may concern
A story to tell ever so fleeting
Something we maybe could learn.

An African tribe is dying of thirst
The Tiger has numbers so few
Not for a minute have we seen the worst
Is there something that we all can do?

I will swear my allegience to the African tribe!
The Tigers will get my support!
A few politicians I know I can bribe
Donations can always be sought

The Whales are hurting we must put it right
And monkeys in deepest Peru?
The Amazon forest will go overnight
Oh! we must stop that happening to.

Summer's Haze

The grass shimmers in the the gentle breeze
Moving in waves that seem to caress the ground beneath
It twists and turns as if escaping an unseen foe
Yet in its urgency a beauty is exposed

I sit here on this hill alone but for my thoughts.
The warm sun kisses my face like no mortal dare
It grabs me and shares my very soul
I relax here like no other place on earth.

In the distance cattle graze unaware of my thoughts
Heads down in green field like silken blanket,
The many people in the distance, so many working
Ploughing, walking, driving, all with thoughts and dreams

I feel like an observer, a judge, a spectator on life, not in it
I wonder if others dare go to where I am right now
A time of reflection, self-pity, judgement, a time of reckoning.
All my senses are alive unburdened of their daily routine

A Time, A Place

Tears you weep today will dry
I tell you this because I am with you still
I will wipe them by and by
As all those who love you will

I am without the taunt of pain
Without the taunt of illness or fear
I am at peace with all my heart
But that peace will also keep me near

For the body may be broken
The words may have been silenced too
But the soul as such replenished
By the love from such as you.

Don't hang your head in sorrow
Be uplifted by my words so wise
For i tread the path of those before me
That reaches to the skies

It's just a pen.

In battle zone I met a man, all rags and face of pain
I stopped awhile and spoke his tongue, he never gave his name,
'What ails you sir i spoke with zest how does life treat you so?
Your face unshaven clothes all torn and nowhere left to go, '

He spoke in softest tone on life, surprised at what I'd said,
'I have but words to tell my tale a writer born and bred,
I dared to speak of right and wrong and stood for all that's right,
I spoke of men and guns and wars and warned all those who'd fight'.

'Then lines of soldiers past my way and threw me to the floor
They tore my clothes and spat at me and cursed my writing more,
I was chained and maniculed, imprisoned for such views,
By men who yearn to kill and maim, we few who spread such news'.

'So there i sat in prison cell, words came to my salvation,
My mind still active full of thoughts on how to save this nation,
Then time passed onwards, shooting stopped outside the silence came,
A key then heard in cell door lock saw freedom once again'.
