Dave James

Money talks.

You have no sense of right and wrong.
'No, but I have money.'
You tell such lies, string folks along
'Yes, but i have money.'
When asked a question you will duck
'Yes but I have money.'
You ride the people and your luck
'Yes but I have money.'
What makes you so just damn cocksure?
'It's that I have money.'
Your day will come and that's for sure
'Not, while I have money.'

'For money says where roads will go
A train can travel yes or no
It says when wars can now be fought
And who amongst us can be bought
It kills the weak protects the strong
Or builds a runway 10 miles long
It governs countries like or not

I came upon a wishing tree...

Just for a little fun...!

I came upon a wishing tree
Whilst walking out one day
It spoke to me as i passed by
It had a lot to say

'Dear boy' says tree with deepest tone
'Your brow looks like my bark!
Such frown you wear upon your face
What thoughts think you so dark? '

Startled by a tree that talks
I stopped dead in my tracks
'How does a tree so talk to me? '
I needed all the facts.

'As i declare don't think me rude
That i must stop and stare,
For tree's that speak confuse me so,

A New Shropshire Lad

This landscape that is natures best
The hills this county has bequest

Of Shropshire ilk and soil born
Such pride and dignity adorn

A beauty formed, such oral splendour
Melts the thoughts of every gender

Even men of simplest mind
Of natures beauty can't be blind

The very God's do cry and weep
Such beauty shared not their's to keep,

For Shropshire's heart it knows no bounds
From rolling hills, historic towns

Of evenings splendour talk can I
On Myndds beneath the redest sky

Her Fathers daughter

I lay beside my daddy as he spoke with softest tone
The words that I remembered well when i was far from home

He whispered soft and tenderly as we just cuddled tight
'Whenever you just need a friend in deepest darkest night, '

'Just close your eyes and lay your head and gently drift away
And take for granted I am there as promised, every day',

For Daddy's never far away, he never loses track
Of where his little girl may be, or when she's coming back

And as I gaze at tired eyes, the years have passed us by
That look of love's still burning there, enough to make me cry

But now he lays his tired head to rest a final time
I stroke his greying hair so soft as once he tended mine

I lay beside him one more time as we so often would
and whispered 'Dad I love you so' and 'yes I will be good...'

A tribute to a Legend.

Up at five and really so keen,
To see the bond of man and machine

3 hours to drive to get to the start
We all have a laugh and so full of heart

We know it is early, the weather is damp
But we need to see cars come off the ramp

Through fog and rain we push on with style
We know the main man is due in a while

Then comes a whistle, the marshal says time
A car is now coming through forests of pine

Its howl is so frightening, like a banshee on heat
There is no escape, as we shuffle our feet

And suddenly now its why we are here
McRae over crest of course in top gear!

Dusk

The silence broken, shrieks a far off hawk

As darkness starts to fall it leads alone to night

As cloudless dusk shows Venus first

In a dazzling display of early light

The orange sky spreads fingers

Heaven wide and stretched so long

Above the silent hills

Though nothing at this moment feels wrong

The silent grasses wear a heavy dew

Dare

So what am i to write today upon this canvas bare?
That I am fine, ok or well? , as if you really care.
String sentences profound as such, that tell you all is well.
Whilst heart is shouting dare it might, in truth I am in hell.

Be still my demons for a while, bring forward silence hence,
They prey upon my very soul dispel such innocence.
I stumble through this sorry life as if caught in a spell,
Revolving faster evermore no exit can't you tell? .

No sanctions thus am I dispensed, no respite so allowed,
And stand I broken many times before the baying crowd.
But deep inside the angst of life that haunts my waking hours,
A flicker of what I could be, a glimpse of different powers.

Though life it tells a sorry tale such glimpses glow then fade,
For paths that I must follow hence have clearly so been made.
I would complain and rightly so, a noise to wake the dead,
But fear i walk amongst them now so live with them instead.

My Dragon and I

I sat one night on hill top high
And hummed the saddest tune
The thoughts i had just made me cry
As i stared at the moon

I felt the earth begin to shake
Below my trembling feet
The hill such sounds began to make
I really was quite beat

I glanced below, let out a wail
For something there was heaving
I'd sat upon a dragon's tale
And he was fire breathing!

'Spare me! dragon I am small
I cannot be that tasty! '
He soon replied with dragon's roar
'I'm really not that hasty'

A tale of honesty

Would that i be asked upon what makes me the man?
I surely would reply all grand things and puff my chest and pout
Be strong with my convictions so on life and all it's action's
And speak in gruff and lowered tones of feats that take your breath
And not merely the slaying of all those before who stand upon my trail
So that i may follow the path that my father set so many years ago.
Alas for me if i answered thus so in truth it would be a certain lie.
I am not that man who would beat and wound one so
I am not that strongest of leaders that fronts the battle lines
My heart does not follow such passions and never has
I am at one with what this world would offer me in peace
Mother nature holds my sway and lifts my heart apace
The flowing streams and swaying leaves in summer's breeze
And bluest sky that drops to earth and shrouds this greenest land
Where roses grow and bloom such beauty despite their thorny stems
For I am at one with who i am, not who i must be perceived to be.
Different, aye, that's as maybe too, but less a man because of it?
Well not says I. For a real man will stand for who he is and has become..
So listen not to men in power and importance with such a reverence
For they have yet to be honest with themselves not just you and I.

Sign 'o' the Times

I am a simple man it seems
And happy I should be.
Not driven by the money train
Or chic celebrity

I wish to only live and breath
And find a house to dwell
And raise a little family
With loving wife as well

My only wants are very small
My outlook always bright
To work and earn to feed us all
To sleep so sound at night.

Be healthy and enjoy life so
To me is all it takes
But lately it's been touch and go
like someone hit the brakes.
