Of Love

‘LOVE' - What mystique power it wields
In what myriad guise, it wraps!
At times a sweet ache so coy to reveal
Or a sudden urge, hard to unveil

Sometimes a deep sensation
A strong surge of emotion
Permeating every atom
Pervading from top to bottom

It heightens the pulse
And makes every nerve convulse
It has left kingdoms fall asunder
And many a mighty men - surrender

Often, like dew drops falling from above
Or the warbling notes flowing out from the grove
It leaves the heart go upbeat in prosody
Changing every sensation into rhapsody

Chikungunya

People in hundreds falling sick,
With a strange malady so belligerent,
Never before had they suffered so much,
From any ailment known to them.

It has spread its virulent hooks,
On everyone both young and old,
Hospitals remain flooded with patients,
Scarce in space to accommodate all.

The sickness starts its sudden onslaught,
With fever followed by symptoms many,
Ruddy face and itching skin,
With swollen body and aching limbs,

People move limping lame,
With ankles strained with darting pain.
A terrible fatigue sways over,
And a few develop loss of taste,

Nature’s Bounty

The woods stretched across, black and bare,
With the sounds of screeching, hushed and still.
Gentle blew the cool autumn wind,
Wafting the scent of blossoming blooms.
Half unveiled the moon in her throne,
As the fleecy clouds drifted past.
Luminous whirled the glow worms round,
The glamourous sentries of the night,
Flashing rings of spiralling light,
They illumined another ‘Deevali Night’.

The solitary tramp, wounded and scorned,
In life’s ignoble, battering strife,
Wended his way through the forking paths,
And down he walked the mazy lanes,
Away from the buzz of city marts,
Far from the den of beastly men,
Sick of the world’s wily tricks,
And weary of its perfidious deeds,
To be sheltered in Nature’s sylvan abode,

Blossoms

Flowers lovely, marvellous gift from God,
They deck the Earth, they give delight,
They drape the dales and adorn the hills,
They feast the eyes and fill the hearts.

My life blooms when plants are abloom,
Each morn, I gaze at flowers in myriad hues,
That adorn the garden my mother keeps,
Her prized possession next to her kids.

Through the arch window, Roses are in sight,
Chrysanthemums and Daisies, they grow in rows,
The white Lilies and the purple Tulips,
They seem to delight in their contrast shades.

In summer I watch the butterflies flitting around,
Also the honey bees that come to steal the pollen from the blooms,
Small birds that dart into twining boughs,
Build nests in the secret hide of bushy trees.

Ants and the Lessons They Teach

In a cluttered heap
Under an empty tin
Settled a colony of black ants
Neither annoyed by raging heat
Nor drenched in pouring rain
With intrusion from nowhere,
They thrived on as a single swell.

The happy residents of this peaceful abode
Never deterred by distractions any
Survival, being their sole intent
Work in unison to meet their needs.
Some, like warriors, guard their nest
While others go foraging food
Each having his assigned role
And none fattening on another's sweat
A gracious queen here rules the nest,
Neither despotic nor imperious
Staying inside, patiently laying eggs
Knowing, they thrive on increased number.

Slowdown Your Pace

Hey youngster, where do you scurry?
Why are you in such frivolous hurry?
Slow down your pace to look around
And enjoy the marvels that surround.

Aimless you wander far and wide
And seldom bother to look inside.
Ever be content with what you have
Though denied much of what you crave.

The gift of youth is a wondrous thing
Before aches and pains the onset of age bring,
Feast on the glories, God has set
In goblets filled for man to taste.

Fill your heart with the elixir of love
Champion the cause of peace as your vow
Act in the Present and look up with hope
For it's the magic that fills up every cup

Suicide Bomber

A dark figure emerged from the hide,
Like a meteor, so suddenly appeared.
Jostling the crowd, he rushed forward,
None could check his reckless move.

Nobody knew from where he came,
What his intent, none could guess,
Flames of fury burnt his brain,
Fire of passion charged his heart,

His face looked taut with hate,
Every muscle throbbed to avenge,
His eyes appeared blind with gall,
A fiery rage drove him mad.

He didn’t care what would befall,
A trifle did he price his life,
The Time Bomb ticked within his pouch,
He speeded up to the Centre stage.

Childhood

Riding down on the wheels of Time,
Through the bends and curves of weary life,
Pleasure it was to halt awhile,
At the start of life as a little kid,

Much we enjoyed those care free days,
With fun and frolic all around,
Nothing to bother and none to nag,
Far removed from staring gaze.

Great it was to ‘dwell' inside,
The house we built with twigs and leaves.
We donned the guise of ‘Dad and Mom',
And ate the dish, we cooked instant.

Fun it was to play ‘Hide n' Seek',
With friends reversing the role in turn,
The cop chasing the thief in hide,
And the thief evading the cop in chase.

A Mother's Prayer for Her Daughter

As days and months speeded by
We longed so deep to have you home
With starving eyes, we kept awake
And you came at last, to give us joy.

With warm embrace and kisses sweet
We greeted you to our lonely nest
Knowing too well, the day will come
When you will leave and leave you shall
To another haven of pain and peace
On the other end of the world, where you live.

But blest we are at this brief interlude
With you under our hovering wings
Let us spend these gala days
In peals of laughter and lively chats

Though grown you are in size and age
Still you remain our fondled babe
As we turn to years past

Second Going

At the prime junction,
Where three roads converged,
They set up a statue,
In mortar and cement.

The Mahatma in loin clothes,
Supported on a staff,
With spectacles on nose,
Stood erect on the pedestal.

The oldsters passed,
Bowing their heads.
The youngsters dashed,
Screeching their horns.
The kiddies paced,
Staring at the outlandish figure.

Exposed to sun and rain,
Covered with smut and dirt,
Stood the Mahatma,
