Yesterday

Yesterday, you were only a whisper away
But fearing that the meaning of love might only be lost in the air
Words remained unspoken
Till you became a thousand yesterdays away

So near you were, only an arm within my reach
And yet so far, I could'nt hold even your fingertips
Now you are near only by memories

I wish someday I would be near your heart
Though I know I could be near you only as close as I held you in my eyes
Until again you are so many thousand yesterdays away

Nasaan Ka

Hinahanap kita sa ating tagpuan
Ngunit wala ka do'n, ikaw ba'y nasaan
Doon sa waiting shade na hinihintay ka
Ikaw ay wala rin, ika'y nasaan ba
Sa park na pasyalan natin ako'y lagi
Wala ka rin doon, ano ba ang sanhi

- 0 -

Sa iyong daigdig, huwag mo 'kong hanapin
Alaala na lang mong ako'y ituring
Ang iyong daigdig na aking nilisan
Ay masalimuot, huli kong nalaman
Ang iyong kahapon na tinatakasan
Ay dinala mo pa sa aking harapan
Ang ating relasyon ay di mabubuo
Ng iyong taksil at sugatan kong puso

Crown of Gold, Crown of Thorn

In any quest for love, just like many others
A winner is proclaimed from all the contenders
The shining crown of gold, just one but who would wear
Decided by a judge, the heart or mind, either

and the winner is...

In this ever changing world, it's not easy to say
Who the real winner is till come the time and day
Was it the winner who lost or the loser who won
Or did the crown of gold became a crown of thorn

In this uncertain world, no one can ever say
Who'll really win or lose, only the time and day

Songs in my Life

In my childhood you did ferry me to dreamland,
On boats of lullaby.

And in my youth were songs I used to sing and hum,
So my woes bid goodbye.

A song kept together me and the one I love,
Us, as one, you did bind.

While on the altar knelt for us did sing the choir,
After we'd walked the isle.

Again for my offsprings the lullabies were sung,
Like for me it was done.

I am now in old age, I sing not anymore,
A song I can't recall.

On my way to the grave, will someone still mourn,
And still sing our song?

My Ageing Poem

A simple poem I wanted to write
The words were so clear in my mind
But my fingers were numb and sore
Lift a pencil they can't at all
Before a few lines write I could
With my signpen wrestle I should

I tried to read my scribbles
And asked my self how did I fare
The words I saw were all in blur
And were in badly crooked lines
I have but lost my metering
And all my lines did hardly rhyme

My next poems shall not be written
And in my thought will just remain
Be unrecited as they may
Till in my mind they fade away

Bumbon

BUMBON

Ang Bunbon ay tirahan ng mga isda
Na hindi natural, tao ang may gawa
Sa gitna ng ilog, doon nakababad
Do'n sa walang agos, meron ma'y banayad
Composition nito'y sari-saring sukal

Accused

From between the pages of an old dusty book
A yellowing paper, with trembling hands I took
And with tears in my eyes again and again I read
The message/writ therein, I refuse to believe

Your handwriting thereon, now illegibly blurred
Wetted by tears that fall each time they're in my hands
But blurred and wet still point a finger at me
Repeat allegations of infidelity

Now you are far away, we're thousand miles apart
The love I have for you still dwells in my heart
But for you I will wait for all eternity
And hope you'll one more time give back your love to me

Smile

About a lady's smile, so much is said and seen
Its softness, its sweetness, its mellowness that heals
But of a lady's smile, should wary be a man
The smile of deception, the smile of betrayal
For smiles have occupied pages in history
The smiles of Delilah and Samson's tragedy

It was Helen's smile that launched a thousand ships
And caused a war between the Trojans and the Greeks
And brought much tragedy on both sides of the fence
The lessson the Trojans learned from the incidence
They took in a token left by the clever Greeks
A 'smiling' wooden horse waiting outside the gate

Sumanga

SUMANGA

Sumanga ay basket, malalim, mahaba
Na konting masinsin at pino ang lala
Bunganga ay oval, bitbitan ay wala
Sa tubig na babaw ito'y ibababa
Hindi nakatayo kundi nakahiga
Bunganga ay harap sa bunton ng bato
Na singlalaki ng tuhod o kamao
Ng dalawang binti ito'y ipit-ipit
Habang papaloob, bato'y kinakabig
Ng pangkahig na gawa mula sa kawayan
Ang haba ay isa't kalahating dangkal
At ang lapad nama'y kalahati lamang
Kasama ng batong napasok sa loob
Ay ang mga isdang doo'y nakasubsob
Matapos ang mga isda ay makuha
Ang bato sa loob ay itatapon na
Kadalasang huli ay anu-ano ba
Bulig, hipon, biya't marami pang iba
