Poetic places of the soul
hide me, confide me and abide me
though I am not
as they seem to think I am
not what I was before.

And the dark places cover and conceal
and serve to heal.

A shining truth
that never was
and always will be

my abiding and hiding

Day and sunlight gone -
and your stars are so bright for you.
They shine for you.
In the night, for you.

I know what they say to you.
Your day, your sunlight is gone.

But your stars are bright.
They shine for you.
In YOUR night, for YOU.

And I'm alright.
Because of you.

I Hope To See It

Her wild rages and moments of truth.
Hiding what is known and what is not.

I believe in her greatness.
And I feel that what she may or may not lack
Is part of her gain.

What shape will her future take on?
I don't know.

But I hope to see it
with more than just these two eyes.

Keeper Of The Lock

Cages made of fear - called love.
Tears shed for what was never lost - for what was found.

Love is imprisoned - with your hand on the key.
And not even knowing it.

Look out through the locked window.
Step through the gate that never closes.

Know that you have always been the keeper of the lock -
that you are free.

Warm and Flowering

Why so cold?
This heart is warm.
My heart is warm I say.

I say, look at these flowers, all for you.
Flowers for me too.
It's my nature.

I want what the warm heart wants. I want you.
You want warmth too, don't you dear?
I want you to be warm,
and flowering.

If not, I'll still be warm.
And if life is cold, remember,
this heart is warm and flowering.

Heart From Eyes

Come back.
The beloved lives to be loved.
What becomes of the beloved
when love is no longer in being?

How does a heart and body turn two different ways?
The heart turns to the beloved.
The eyes turn away.

This tearing goes on.
Heart from eyes. Distance lengthens.
I know time will cure it.
But right now...
Heart from eyes, heart from eyes, heart from eyes.

Angel

My friend is dead.
They put her in the cold ground
by a lake.
They say she's gone with Jesus.
She always did have the eyes of an angel.
I still feel those eyes.
Those brown eyes.
Brown as the earth they put her in.
Deep as the lake that laps against her slumber.
No secrets.
Except those of mine she knew.
And she knew them all.
Baby girl, you knew them all.
Do you still?

Sweet Shine

I saw your face my (more than) friend
the morning of your death.

Sweet eyes - they did not shine.

How could you leave me?
That one sparkle from from your eyes...
I'll find shinings on waters, twinkles in stars...
but you took that best spark with you when you left me.

Remember, we've never been parted.
And now we are?

- only for a time.

I will see your face again.
And your eyes will shine.

Reflected Fire

The cold heart will take what warmth it can find.
I learned this today.

I saw your eyes when they turned to another.
That spark and fire... I knew that look.
So many times before, I basked in that warm glow.
So warmly familiar.
And me, so cold now.

The heart responds.
Just for a taste of the heat it knew once.
A reflected fire bouncing from you to her... to me,
serves to chill and warm this heart, all at the same time.

Island Of Ice

Invisible as the air around you
cold and aloof you stand.

Island of ice in a freezing ocean.
No sunbeams touch your sand.

Other islands are warm and green
and the breezes honey sweet.

You receive the freezing blast
of winds that don't retreat.

And if a traveler should venture forth
(the thought is quite absurd!)

You'd freeze him to his very bones
your annoyance would be cured.

So, what happens next you silly island?
You rigid, frigid fool!
