So This Is It?
So this is it
This is the dark poem that passes for
A suicide note
This is it
The forbidden wishes of long vanquished woes
Rising to the surface
The shady bedsit affair
With an old fold down divan
The lonely poker face
The maurading consumer

A Pair Of Sneakers Bemoan Never Having A Day Off
When you were a baby a sleepin in your cot
Your feet were too small to fit us all
You could barely crawl in your wee teeny socks
And so I sat qute content in the loft
enjoying the freedom of endless days off!
But now you are grown to seventeen stone
You never give me a rest
Once your tootsies are in
I don't get a look in
As your feet rarely leave me alone

Numb
That trip to the dentist left me uncomfortably numb
There was blood in my mouth on my gum
A tooth missing
The wind blowing against me
Senseless to trauma
Drowsy limbs stumbled
Across roads
Over fallen branches and streets
With unfamiliar names
Like 'uncomfortably numb'

The Thing Is?
The thing is?
A matter of speech
It also sits alone on the mantlepiece
Just out of reach
The thing is?
A matter of words
A feeling condensed
In a texture and touch
A familiar sight
Or a smell or sound
That you love/hate too much
The thing that is hanging around is?
A private thing
A certain eccentric comfort
A childhood memory
It is both loved and despised
A hidden piece of you unmarked unpriced
In the disguise
Of
A favourite cup with an elephant's head

How To Kill An Alien In 3 Stages
How to kill an Alien in three stages
1 Get the low down on them
ie dress code skin colour habits and Alien Medical history
Learn about their home planet their political and intellectual powers of reasoning
Investigate their toilet habits, diet and get an Alien medical history
Meaning Alien history that is alien to you
A list of allergies
1 Invite them to dinner
Find out if they are 'dairy intolerant'
Offer them milkshake disguised as a lamp shade some Alien's eat lampshades for the fibre

A metaphor
Some stay chastised
Some henpecked
Rain checked
Some battered
Some under dark shades disguised
Some despise
And are despised
And yet even after so much brutality
Mixed words
Fragile tears at innocence

A right pair!
The tired shoes yawned,
They were unable to detach themselves from the feet
The tired feet yawned
Feeling trapped by the shoes and unable to escape
The first signs of agraphobia pressed in
Both were sick of the sight of each other
What a pair!
The hands tapped the table top idly
Refusing to release them,
Too busy composing a first and second draft

The review
At the review he was to give a 'preview' of his book
He wore crushed purple velvet
To create a distinguished 'celebrity look! '
He bit his nails for the first time
He was nervous
And as writers often do.....he 'chainsmoked'
And despite being teetotal he drank...
First shorts...then wine...
One day 'Champagne ' he mused
And feeling clumsy and confused

I am forever
I am forever the lover,
The loser
Life's dreamer
Streets walker
Smooth talker
I am forever in the journey of
An untouched sea
Seeming in calm
Soul quiet
Uncertain of the future

Skin
Underneath my skin, is another skin
Underneath my bones some other bones
In which you have walked
And still walk
Underneath this tree grows another tree
In which you have grown
In which your roots have sewn
These shoots that rise up
Carry me nearer to you
I walk into your past
