An Expression of Love
Valentine’s Day comes once a year
To commemorate feelings of affection
For that special someone that we hold dear
The one who makes us smile upon reflection
You are the one who makes my life complete
On a scale from one to ten, you’re an eleven
My feet seldom touch the surface of the street
Because you make me feel like I am in heaven
Love we share is joy that repeats again and again
Our tender love makes everything better than right
Thank you for the happiness that your love sustains
You are my breath at dawn and my embrace at night
Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Hours After…
Merry, Merry Christmas
It is a joyous time of year
The sounds of Christmas
Are reverberating in my ear
Turn off the colorful tree lights
Another Christmas has gone by
The festivities are over
The punch has been drained dry…
Merry, Merry Christmas
Calm permeates the hours after
Time to regain an inner balance
No more hugs or jolly laughter
The opened gifts fill the trash
With wrapping paper and bows
The leftovers are refrigerated
I’ll recline and relax in repose

VHS Tapes
We came across old family video tapes...
Antiquated by digital standards of today
Inspired to look back into days gone by
Where time and laughter do not decay
Birthdays, Christmas parties, weddings,
Recitals, soccer games, and parades...
Seems strange to watch the scenes
as memories revisit ageless decades
Grandkids, now in their twenties
looked so adorable and free of woes
smiling shyly… trying not to give notice
Growing year by year right under my nose
Hearing: is that Joe, he looks different
Hey Dad, you were thin back then…
Look there's Grandpa Gary, Aunt Annie,
and cousin Gloria… geez I miss them

August Sunrise
The sequence of months
reoccur without exception
Never failing to reiterate...
Recreating life's dimensions
The phases of the moon
punctuate each day and week
as eventful chapters fade away...
August is here as I speak
The eighth month of the year
is especially significant to me
It is the month that loved ones
departed… leaving only a memory
Grandmother, mom, and spouse...
all relinquished all earthly ties
during this month of bountiful giving
Reminding me of their goodbyes

The Plated Armadillo
By all measure you are unusual
You have armor plates that protect
You can roll into a ball and inflate
You spur confounded respect
God was very clever when designing
Why not fur instead of a leathery shell
You're unlike any other normal animal
For some reason…you are special
Your uniqueness distances you from all else
Is this why you try to stay out of sight
To avoid confrontation from inquiring minds...
burrowing into the ground and hunting at night
Other Armadillos find you to be quite ordinary
Can't understand why people are starring
Each creation and plan under the heavens
Has a reason... remember this when comparing

Another Year Has Gone By
Today’s pleasures have no motion
Life’s delights are lacking emotion
The air is still…there is no flow
Each minute of time awkwardly slows
I have no appetite for my favorite food
Emptiness invades my uncertain mood
Performances that entertained now bore
A silent presence opens a closed door
Three years ago, on this date…time stopped
The paralyzing pain I felt cannot be forgot
Today’s the anniversary of the day he died
A rush of memories… both good and bad collide
Repressed thoughts surface…in black and white
The sun gives light… but it seems like night
A shadow follows me as I continue on my way
Gradually darkness fades…tomorrow is a new day

A Thanksgiving Finale
Missing from the table are familiar faces
Family characteristics renew their traces
Youthful laughter has a recognizable ring
Silent flashbacks stir carefree reminiscing
Another Thanksgiving has just passed by
Remaining are portions of foil-covered pies
Servings await dollops of whipped cream
Refrigerated leftovers have a turkey theme
The elongated dinning room table is vacant
An empty mood dominates over the jubilant
Innate forces guided me to old family videos
My son and I view and listen to the audio
Comfort fills the room with an aura of light
The television illuminates smiles in the night
As the last minutes of the past fade away
We mentally blow loving kisses to yesterday

Wedding Anniversary and Father’s Day
June 15,2008
Today is unique…it is a date to be doubly celebrated
June the fifteenth is a special day for remembering Dad
It is also the forty-fifth anniversary of when I wed my mate
Over the years life has changed…I could easily be sad
But this Sunday morning I have a reminiscing smile
Remembering a day that made wishful dreams come true
On a day like this…my father walked me down the aisle
Who gives this woman to be wed… he timidly said….'I do'
His grandson was named after him…he was tearfully proud
His days of living abruptly end before the little guy was two
Each day 'Joe' is called to mind as his name is spoken aloud
Father on this special day…I am having fond thoughts of you

Creative Identity
Universal energy
Contains endless possibilities
Within its magnificent entities
Eyes and ears are open
Having the ability to see and hear
An atmosphere surrounds… possessing treasures
A world of incredible multifaceted mastery
Remarkable pleasure is filled with sanctity
In a world of amazing wonder
Thoughts are constantly emerging
Like shimmering crystals in robust rock
Gathering light from a distant source
Setting free a radiant inner force
Experiencing the event is awesome
Lasting lucid traces are celebrated
Human creativity and imagination express
Adding vibrant tones to the composition

Last Days of Summer
Breathe the joy of summer for one more day
Bask in the shade of accommodating trees
Smell the sweet fragrance of lilies and roses
Watch, as golden nectar is gathered by bees
The blueness of the sky is calm and peaceful
Elongating wisps of chalky white smoke trails
Streak silently across the highest elevations
A glint of sliver leads the heavenly portrayal
Young sidewalk artists add a dazzling flavor
Rainbows and butterflies decorate the concrete
Outlines of elephants and tigers roam carefree
Ex outsmarts circle with a diagonal defeat
Crowns of branches are brushed with tinges of gold
Breezes intensify as leaves cascade to the ground
Dark rain clouds invade, erasing summer fantasies
Cooling joyful summer dreams as the rain pounds
