Drunk Driver
You are sociable and love to laugh and joke.
You over indulge in liquor and nicotine smoke.
It is time to travel tipsy toward your residence.
A designated driver is needed, but you’d take offense.
As you navigate, while floating in a haze
You are confused, as you drive through a maze.
It was the red light that you were going to cheat.
You never noticed a schoolgirl crossing the street.
You are now are in a tormenting predicament.
There is broken glass and blood on the cement.
A promising young child is silent, without a pulse.
Your judgment of capability was extremely false.
She will not graduate with a sense of pride.
She will not love or grow up to be a bride.
Her lovely life has come to an unexpected end.
If only you were simply sober and did not pretend.

Bouncing Pony
Joey is an adventurous little boy
A bouncing pony is his birthday present
Grandpa Joe’s heart is filled with joy.
Let me help you into the saddle to enjoy
Youthful squeals eagerly express intent
Joey is an adventurous little boy
Into the stirrups Joey’s feet are employed
Energy is engaged one hundred percent
Grandpa Joe’s heart is filled with joy.
Reins are grasped by a miniature cowboy…
The eager steed bolts and away they went
Joey is an adventurous little boy.
The spirits of two generations join as one…

An Old Apple Tree
I remember my next door neighbor
Defending her owner’s rights
Protecting a gnarly old apple tree
That had grown to great heights
Its strong branches extended
Into the backyard power lines
Workmen from the electric company
Declared... your tree is in decline
The best strategy would be removal
Problems could be solved in advance
Insuring that it wouldn't be a hazard
With folded arms she stated, 'Not a chance…'
That apple tree has a long history
To her it had status…it was a shrine
Her kids had built a tree house
Years ago…it was of superior design

Johnny’s Safari
Animal crackers wait to be released
While Johnny’s appetite is increased
With small hands, he reaches inside
Hunting for a tasty tiger that resides
With radar fingers he tries to differentiate
He imagines the forms as he concentrates
No, not this one... its long neck is too tall
Certainly not this… it’s tail is none at all
Ah ha, Johnny is confident that he as found
The most feared ferocious beast around
A firm grip is lifting the bagged trophy into sight
Soon to be welcomed by an enthusiastic bite
Surprisingly the form is not what was expected
Realization erases the image that was depicted
It is a bulbous Rhino; small fingertips were blind
Chomp! All the same, it is still a flavorful find

Christmas Snow
There are those who feel
Christmas day is not complete
without a white blanket of snow
beneath their booted feet
I've heard of requests from
the young with hopeful dreams
waiting for jiggling sleigh bells…
Snow would certainly enhance the scene
Today, I heard of ways to invite
the snow to the streets of town
First of all, put a white crayon
on a window sill; gently set it down
Next, pour an ample amount of ice cubes
in the toilet bowl… weird, but go ahead
Thirdly, wear your pajamas inside out

A Perfect Day, September 18,2010
Wedding vows of devotion are spoken
on this day… a day witnessed happily
The beginning of a glorious life of harmony
celebrated with close friends and family
A fine reception is planned to honor the pair
a radiant bride and groom… giving opportunity
for all who are gathered to rejoice and mingle
A time to share laughter and toast to unity
Guests are assembled and anxiously await
With spontaneous applause… hearts gladden
Here's the couple and their wedding party…
wearing black tails, gossamer lace, and silky satin
'It is all like a fairy tale… everything is perfect, '
said the proud mother of the bride… beaming
Wishing that the celebration could go on forever…

Rhonda's Day at the Park
Rhonda Wright where have you been today?
I've been at the Community Park to play
What did you and your friends do to have fun?
I hit the baseball into the lake and made a home run
I pushed Billy on the swing; he fell on the ground
He lay there limply for awhile without a sound
Then finally he moaned and took a deep breath.
He brushed himself off, then ran away and wept.
The slide was very tall and had many humps
I sat on waxed paper and bounced the bumps
I slid so fast that I could not stop and crashed
Striking startled Sally as she gallantly dashed
We had a lunch of hot dogs and potato salad.
As we grilled more dogs and sang a country ballad
it started to rain, so we went to the pavilion
Many ants joined our lunch; I counted a million…

The Frog and the Dragonfly
From the pond they both came
Hatching and making their debut
Both a gift from the water’s edge
One hopped and the other flew
As the frog searched for sustenance
He spied a bug and waited patiently
In a flash he swallowed with a gulp
He digested his treat quite efficiently
The dragonfly’s wings beat at a rapid rate
Mosquitoes offered an array of delight
Hovering momentarily, then plunging…
The dragonfly seized its dinner in flight
Then one sunny day it came to be
That bulging eyes anticipated a feast
The amphibious one was famished
Soon the dragonfly would be deceased

Girls With Curls
Girls who have a natural curl
to their hair are completely
agitated with the bending trend...
they heat their flat iron discreetly
Testing to make sure it won't burn
patiently taking their hair by strands
smoothly ironing the kink... firmly
pressing as hard as it will withstand
Gradually natural curls are
entirely straight as a board
not a wave or twist is insight...
An hour of diligence gives reward
Girls with naturally straight hair
admire girls with curly hair
they wish they too could have
bounce and twirls without a care

My Favorite Month …
You joyfully arrived early this morning grinning with delight
June… you are my most favorite month for many reasons
Your presence brings cheers as frigid nights take flight
Your warmth and gentle ways start the summer season
Flats of flowering plants stand in rows starving for attention
Freshly tilled gardens anticipate and welcome new friends
A transformation is taking place…it is an inviting dimension
Children give you a huge embrace as the school year ends
Freshly mowed lawns reveal green scented carpets around town
Dogs with their owners stroll in the park near the free flowing river
Sunglassed drivers absorb the breeze with convertible tops down
June… you never let us frown…you certainly know how to deliver
Beautiful brides are ready to realize a perfectly planned wedding
Baseball fans are visualizing scores leading to the World Series
Eager participants rush forward knowing where they are heading
The future is filled with promise … eliminating any doubtful theories
