Joke 12 Two Things About A Horse

There are two things I know about a horse

-

I always forget what the second thing is
Perhaps that it has four legs
One at each corner

X Diary 12 Magic

Magic don’t necessarily mean smart
Can mean just magic
Glows a bit
Comes and goes in unexpected ways
Hides what it’s doing when it’s not there
Still dumb as a brick

TimeSong 21 At Times Like These

All in good time!
About time!
High time!
Just a moment!
Just in time!
As we speak!
Time was…
Meantime …
Doing time…
Prime time
The time of my life
The test of time
Time’s up!
Time to go!
The end of time
Timeless
Now then!
Now now!

Landscape 23 Come Away!

When I was young and the wind was right
I could hear the foghorns down on the Thames
The great sea-voices of the ships
Coming into the Port of London
Bass siren songs in slow harmony
Calling me to faraway places

Now both the port and I have moved
And these mournful calls just a memory
But sometimes at night when the wind is right
I can hear the freight train’s horn
A mile of freight cars hauling west
And the old wanderlust stirs faintly

Landscape 28 Meniscus

The molecules of water are held together
By weak electrical forces
That extend in all directions.
At the water surface, the upward forces,
Having nowhere watery to go,
Lie along the surface
To form a thin skin, called a meniscus.
This is the skin that holds water drops,
Supports water striders,
Even skips stones.

I came once to an Adirondack Lake
On a still moonlit night.
The lake seemed full of fireflies,
Flashes of light in the water
As far as the eye could see.
I finally discovered the source of the light,
The sudden movements of water striders
Riding the meniscus
Bent the water surface

X Diary 07 Happy Sam And The Magic Horse

A Children's Tale

Once upon a time
There was a little boy called Happy Sam
Happy Sam lived in a house by a forest
With his mother and his father
And his baby brother
Lucky Peter
One day Happy Sam was walking in the forest
Further from home than he had been before
And he saw –
A HORSE
In the horse’s mouth there was –
A KEY
Happy Sam wanted that key
'HORSE'
Said Happy Sam
'GIVE ME THE KEY'
'Neigh'
Said the horse
