Sam Edison

The Rebel Bard Is King

The rebellious poet creating his authentic truth

Older than pyramids but speaking for youth

Constantly bending genre, he is so diverse

Creating new dimensions with metaphor in verse

He’s an actor, a prophet, and a superhero to

He’s a killer, a leader he is anything but you

He sat with pharaoh’s and drank brandy with kings

Ate peaches with angels that were playing harp strings

The ruler of millions of planets he gave birth

An exploding star with infinite worth

An Angel In Hells Kitchen

An angel hovers over Ninth Avenue guiding us drunks home
Keeping us who are lonsome company so we dont feel alone
An angel glides down Tenth Avenue singing us a psalm
To all of us who are full of rage making sure we're calm
An angel watches over Forty Second as we all cross the street
Making sure we all cross safely and keeping us on our feet
An angel on Twelfth Avenue watching the boys on the docks
Keeping them warm and alert as they work as tough as rocks
They're these angels in Hells Kitchen as there are angels everywhere
Angels protecting me and you even when nobody cares

Saint Maria Goretti's Forgiveness

Maria Maria you had no fear of losing mortal life
You had compassion for your assailaint during each stab of his knife
You had worries for his soul even as you lay there dying
You knew yours was off to heavan while the angels stayed there crying
He initially came to rape you but you said you'd rather die
So seventeen times he stabbed you without a single tear in his eye
As you laid there on your death bed you prayed to forgive his soul
Said you want to see him again in heavan not that infinite fiery hole
At only age eleven you died to do whats right
You later saved his soul when it was he who took your life

Heavens Jazz Note

Sitting under the moonlight with a beer in my hand
Drunken cries of disoriented ghouls arrange a formidable band
Music without soul sung by those dejected lost souls
Intoxication cannot stop the blood from gushing out of my ears

The sound a ballad of pain a sonata of ones fears
Demons fly above me laughing with infinite jeers
I throw my beer to the ground and panic with disbelief
I gain enough strength to run but the earth begins to fall underneath

And then a golden horn falls down from darkened skies
Lands into my hands and illuminates all in front of my eyes
The trumpet commences to play a triumphant tune
One fit for royalty seated in an alluring room

Gone is the sound of Satan's choir, no longer that impression of doom
But the most glorious melody eradicates the gloom
The skies are now paradise as the sun shines on my face
I thank that jazz note from heaven for allowing this grace

Poetic Warrior

A poetic warrior with a ball point sword
A typewriter dagger to lose he can't afford
The computer screen or the note pad are his battle field
Inspiration from others are his strong sturdy shield
Negative critics and writers block he can always defeat
Sometimes his heart might be broken still he keeps it concrete
He can take pain and suffering and use it to create
So his wounds can be a weapon knowing others can relate
He is a poetic warrior from the beginning of time
Defending his homeland of metaphor and rhyme

A hero to the reader always saving their mind
In search of shining armor it is him they do find
They are protected from the uninspiring
The ones who are in love with art defiling
It is them he sends spiraling, into the depths of hell
They can feel the truth and the warmth in his rhythm
In his wordplay many messages are unhidden
He is their poetic warrior from the beginning of time
Defending their homeland of metaphor and rhyme

Baseball

Can you smell the fresh cut grass and feel the energy of the crowd
The roaring sound of thousands as they cheer what makes them proud
The sound of a wooden bat making contact with a fastball
The joy of millions at home watching their team give it their all
In many circumstances the only thing in common of a father and son
Is the love to watch their team drive in the winning run
It will make grown men cry tears of joy and tears of pain
Hardened up drunken tough guys and do good sensitive men its all the same
It can lift the spirits of an entire city as they prepare that parade
A world series victory how it can just feel so heaven made
Think of what Jackie done to elevate his entire race
Or what the Yankees did in 77 the pain of a city it did erase
In 2004 the mighty sox let many finally rest in peace
An end to Bostons suffering 86 years of defeats
And just a year later the Black Sox finally cleaned themselves white
Chicago finally got to celebrate making Shoeless Joe in the right
We waved goodbye to curses miracles we all had seen
As baseball did what it always has filling every Americans dream
