When You
When you fail miserably
when everything looks terribly
beyond your reach and so
when you have nowhere to go
when your foot steps jerk
and don't create a mark
Trust thy Lord and envisage
your goal.Muster all your courage
think positively and recollect today
the good things that came your way
Take your Lord's name and then
embark once again.

Untitled
Every tongue has a tale
every heart has some pain
every heart beat has a voice
and every eye, a tear.
Life has many colours
every colour has a new spectrum
In the ups and downs of life
every turn has a new beginning.
In this journey of life
there is pleasure and pain
no matter what has passed
we have to keep moving forward.

The Poor Woman
She searched for some puffed rice,
finding the box empty, she checked twice
wiping her tears, she looked around
she could not find any morsel of food.
Without any courage to face
and pacify her wailing children,
she poured some water in a pot
and placed it on the stove.
Then she began stroking her kids gently
eagerly waiting for their food
to be cooked
they fell fast asleep in her lap.

Quest
What am I looking for?
What am I searching for?
What quest is this, I know not?
Where does this path lead to?
Where is my destination?
What quest is this, I know not?
Is my quest worth it?
Or is it just a pursuit for
some goal or purpose?
Or is it an exploration of
the journey called life?
Or is it a crusade for
meeting with the Lord?
What quest is this, I know not?

Sunbeams
The warming rays
streaming on the freshness
of the morning
The slanting rays
trembling between
the green leaves
The guiding rays
sneaking from the arched
roofs of the trees
The shimmering rays
spreading on the curtain panels
of the windows
The scorching rays
flaring on the barren
dry fields
The crimson rays
touching the bare path
like beads of rubies
The outward light fades
while the inward light

Childhood
Born not
with a silver spoon,
unclothed and unfed, I sought
for food every forenoon.
And I always thought
when every child played,
unkempt and untaught
day and night I toiled.
With soiled clothes and dreams bright
sometimes, I woke up with a fright
and sometimes with a new hope-
a new dawn and a smiling spring,
with school books and no labour to cope
and endearing happiness in every swing.

A Prayer
Light up my life, my Lord-
turn the darkness to light
light up my heart and sight.
Seemed, sun would rise and be bright
and everywhere there would be light
but all seems in vain
and unbearable is my pain.
Now only shadows meet and I fear
all I see is the face of death near.
Light up my life, my Lord-
like a phoenix, I wish to rise again
and feel the sunbeams and rain
with no fears and sighs
with a new morn in my eyes.

An Innocent Victim
She was a lively
and a bubbly girl of three,
running around and playing
with her brother in her flat.
As the sun went down
she fell ill and
started vomitting.
Short of breath
she was rushed to the hospital
she began sinking
Inhaling the pesticide
sprayed in a
neighbouring flat,
she struggled with life now
ultimately she gave up
and died
without an antidote
for the banned pesticide.

Countryside
Patches of dark grey clouds
and streaks of white clouds
on the greenish brown hills
blocking the daylight;
The water-filled paddy fields
the swaying of the coconut tree leaves
the raindrops on mustard flowers;
some black and white coloured
cows tied under a tree
and a herd of mooing cows heading home;
The smiles of children playing in
rain puddles, various coloured
umbrellas scattered from
here to there, people rushing
to their homes, a small
temple sheltering all;
The cool breeze, the droplets of
water on every face,
the smell of damp brown-earth
made the time stand still.

Sea
The roaring sea
on a summer afternoon
the sun burning brightly
upon the desert dunes;
the shimmering waves and heat
of the burning sand under the feet;
the increasing humidity in
the air, the dripping sweat
on the sun burnt skin.
The ebb and flow
of waves brings crabs, shells
and carcass of small birds or so;
at their return, destroys the small
sand castles of children though.
In this sea of life
with no defined shore, torn between modern life
and goals, quest for
unending desires and ambitions
burdening the hearts and souls replete
with never ending situations.
