Christmas 2009
The soft glow from a Christmas tree
The one time of year you go on a shopping spree
Large snowflakes fall, like feathers from the sky
Caroler’s singing songs from days gone by
Presents wrapped under the tree
Some for you and some for me
Old Christmas movies from our childhood
Help us reminisce and makes us feel good

The wonder of a Christmas tree
There’s something about a Christmas tree
With twinkling lights and bulbs to see
Tinsel flowing, like angles hair
The scent of pine that fills the air
The light dancing on silver and gold
Dozens of ornaments the branches hold
Silver bells and bird on wing
Candy cane and choir sing
All nestled on an evergreen
An angel tops this Christmas scene

Halloween II
Crunching leaves below my feet
Chocolate, caramel, candy sweet
The crow’s call, fills the night
Restless spirits all take flight
Ghost and goblins fill our streets
A corn mazes challenge we’d like to meet
A brisk energy fills the air
Trees with eyes that stare and stare
So, don’t you pause and don’t you yell
Halloween has cast it spell

August Cold
Oddly this August is unusually cool
Soon the kids will head back to school
Summer has mysteriously slipped on by
Leaving us empty and asking why
Soon autumn will fall across the land
Will it be mild or make a stand?
Or will it fade into winter, and leave us cold
Will its colors be drab, or brilliant and bold?
Oh, what a strange year you have been
When will things be right again?

Eagles Rainbow
Once in a town called Eagle, on a hot summers day
The sky's opened up and washed the day away
When it was over, there stood high in the sky
A rainbow with all its glory with birds flying by
It was a giant rainbow, like something you'd have to see
And as I drew closer there was not one but three!
I stood in the open field, feeling closer to God
Knowing this world was not just made of hard work, bills, and sod

A Pirate's booty (Halloween)
Halloween is approaching, oh what a sight
All the creatures that roam on a Halloween night
This year a “Pirate” stakes a claim above the rest
Guarding her stash of candy, in the old treasure chest
Of those who wish to take it are beggars and thieves
The streets are full of them, like the fallen leaves
They run off with the loot, like strangers in the night
Leaving nothing but the trail of their red taillight

January-IS COLD!
January, how you make me shiver
My teeth chatter with every snowflake you deliver
Snow piled high on my doorstep
You’ve taken all of my pep
With a cold that is felt to the core
Snow so deep your can’t ignore
Summer seems so far away
But I must embrace the day
A snow flocked forest now me surround
With diamond crystals upon the ground
A beauty so breathe taking to the eye
But the COLD of you…..makes me sigh….

The Sounds of Christmas
The sounds of Christmas surround us all
From the streets, to our local mall
People all busy making a fuss
Lights decorate everything from trees, to a bus
Choral voices sing on high
The birds even listen to their lullaby
Snowflakes everywhere be them real or fake
Decorating the world, for Christmas sake
Church bells ring in their steeple
A choral of bells, rung by people
All the sounds of Christmas time
Fill my world and make my rhyme

Battle of the Glassblowers
The battle of the glassblowers in Kalamazoo
Sitting with anticipation in an old church pew
Gaffers from as far as Chicago and Detroit
To show of their talent, and some glass to exploit
Making things they normally, never would do
A chicken, an elephant, and a spider web too
Laughing and joking, making things out of glass
All with a time limit. They’ve got to move fast!
Not everything made it… that is just life
All glassblowers know it, and except that strife

Once before Christmas
I sit in the glow of the Christmas tree
All alone, no one else but me
The house is quiet, hushed and still
As the cat sleeps on the window sill
As I sit and reflect on Christmas’s past
I ponder how they’ve gone so fast
How, not long ago I was just a child
With great anticipation of presents piled
Now, most of my children are all grown
I’m just thankful, that they’re all at home
Now, what of Christmas’s that lie ahead?
I leave those to my dreams, once I’ve gone to bed
