Rev. Rebecca Guile Hudson

Grave Situation

“The other reason I
Didn’t show up?
Well…”

His eyes turned in,
Towards his soul

“It’s something I
Cannot name”

“Welcome to the court
Of consequences! ”
Her retort was immediate
And bruised

They stared, stunned
By nebulous knowledge
Deep into each other

Summer Return

the sounds of summer
starting up
in the revving, humming engines
of lawnmowers thawing out
from the long winter’s freeze

the voices of children
carried on the evening distances,
reveling in
sunlight after dinner,
homework laid aside for now
until late-night sunset beckons

the insistent birds and crickets
who cheer the warming air
as night’s cool breath
lets go and offers day,
one step closer
to the sounds of summer
starting up again

We're All God's Chillun

You can’t kill ideas by slaughtering people
Just as you can’t confine God to church walls or steeple

Ideas flourish when martyrs are made
&murder is something God strictly forbade

God’s not just on my side, or your side, or theirs
God speaks all languages, answers all prayers

So ask how to do what’s eternally right
God does not condone or support any fight

There’s no child of God rated one above other
We are all each God’s children, - mother, sister, father, brother

New Mexico Welcome

New
to this Land of Enchantment state of mind?
Well, welcome home,
weary traveler, welcome home!

Here’s to feeling strange and wonderful –
Welcome home!

Here’s to feeling bewildered and happy –
Welcome home!

Here’s to feeling unlike you’ve ever felt before
Welcome home, welcome home, welcome home!

& here’s to nothing but beauty
Welcome home, I say, welcome home!

& here’s to surrounded by nature
Welcome home, yes, again, welcome home!

A Heads-Up From On High

Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven
and
the Kingdom of Heaven’s within

Except that you come through Me,
you cannot enter Heaven –
But
seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven –

Look!
The Kingdom of Heaven’s within

***
I’ve given you the key here,
I’m telling you I’m right here

I am in Heaven and
I am in you
And I can never be
anywhere else –

At Play In A Garden of Words (The Problem With Poetry, or, Harvesting the Pea Patch)

I’m put upon to ponder the problem of poetry
& thus, I proudly or, perhaps, perfunctorily,
Ponderously pronounce with a preponderance,
Even a plethora, of p’s:

Poetry is pithy, prankish and perky,
Pertinent and impertinent, too
It’s prophetic, pathetic, pragmatic and proud

Poetry pretends, preaches, points out,
Points to, and down, and under

Poetry’s petals promise purity and peace
Poetry’s pristine, picky and pale

Poetry is practical, prudent, is pregnant,
Gives pause

Poetry’s precise, prayerful, powerful
Poetry’s presence is portentious and playful
