Who Is My Neighbor?
free verse
A dreadful assault
dulled their sense of sympathy
and love walked away two times…
selfish trumped humane.
That beast prejudice,
clearly displayed in neglect
to one accustomed to it,
yet mercy moved him.
Bandages, ointment
a vital ride to the inn
full payment for care followed
a night of concern.
Want eternal life?
Ask not, who is my neighbor?
Be a merciful neighbor;

A Film on the Water
tercets, puns
Sir Rule, Ian Ballew and Ock, a marine
set off on a houseboat to study
the difference between greenish-blue and bluish-green.
The deep blue sky on that fog-foggiest of days
they mistakenly thought was the sea
which explains why to us, when they saw a green haze -
Ian whooped, 'It's a film on the water! ' And so...
Sir Rule sent Ock for popcorn and Pepsi,
Ock started to cuss, 'Why? I always have to go! '
If blue means profane and if naive spells out green,
Who wins the Oscar? It's not hard to see -
greenish-blue, naively-profane - Ock, a marine.
or if you prefer:
bluish-green, profanely-naive - still Ock, a marine.

Between Me and My Mirror
quatrain, ABAB
Mirror, mirror, the answer please
sound it with your softest voice.
I deal, dear Face, with expertise.
Ask on, I fear you'll not rejoice.
Mirror, are there gray hairs dancing
in among my blackest blacks?
Face, I see your foes advancing.
They're waving little silver plaques
in bold print, revealing loudly:
Gray hairs never, ever quit.
Gray is in, wear it proudly.
Lie not, dye not, give up, submit.
Mirror, mirror, the answer please
What are my best alternatives?
Face it, gray is not some disease
