A Friend For Life

I bought a dog
as a friend for life.
When I took it home,
it bit the wife.

She complained,
and it had to go.
So we went for a walk
in the rain and snow.

I thought for a while
about my friend and wife,
and realised it was best
to have a friend for life.

That Certain Smile

There’s something you do to me
when you smile that way,
you lift my heart to new heights,
which fixes me for the day.

Your smile writes a letter of love,
and relays it quicker than a sigh,
in fact it tells of so much more
and what can’t speak can’t lie.

Looking Ahead

I’ve been waiting
to speak with you.
To discuss our future,
and what we’ll do.

Will we be individuals
with freedom of choice,
or will we be together
with an identical voice?

where we think as one,

Manners Has He None

Bertie Snood was extremely rude,
he burped and trumped all day.
He didn't care who heard him swear.
he'd just smile and walk away.

A sorry, excuse me, or pardon me
never once passed his lips.
Passing wind he says is a natural thing,
and occasionally we all let one slip.

As A Poet

I see through the eyes of a woman,
but also through the eyes of a man.
I see through the eyes of children
as only my experience can.

I see through the eyes of animals
and write as if they would talk.
On occasion I write as a body part,
and also as a vegetable, or fork.

The Passage of Time

How sad it is to see the petals fall
from a once magnificent flower.
Its time of beauty has slipped away,
but I remember its finest hour.

I’m sure I felt the earth shake
as each petal kissed the ground.

With the greenest eyes and long red hair,
the palest of skin and freckled face.
The warmest of smiles and infectious laugh,
and lips that I would love to taste.

My racing heart will not slow
whenever she comes near.
If only she would glance my way

She called out a name in her sleep,
but the name wasn’t mine.
Moans of rapture and fervour followed,
but the name wasn’t mine.

I pretended to be the man in her dreams
and spoke words of love so fine.

Thoughts of You

Today I saw a cat that reminded me of you,
it looked straight through me, just as you do.
After a indifferent glance it quickly turned away
with its nose in the air and with nothing to say.
Considering me as dirt, it vanished into the rain;
just as you did, never to be seen again.

Spiritual Mixture

It happened in less than a heartbeat,
an attraction that couldn't be denied.
A reaction between two strangers
that caused their hearts to collide.

Their spirits must've have first spoken
in the way that only spirits do.
They agreed to a mix of chemical love
especially for me and you.
