Nicola Burkett

The day the rainbow cried

I remember the day the rainbow cried
As it was the day my nanny died
I stared in bewilderedness as the colours started to run
For the rainbow was crying as God put away the sun
The angels in heaven all cried with me
As the rain poured down I could no longer see
All alone in the dark I was left to grieve
For along with my Nan the angels would leave

06 - Enchanted Fairies

Over England’s dales
Deep past the ever green
Inside the forest
Lives the Fairy Queen
She hangs the pearls
Upon the cowslips ear
Within the enchantment of night
Beneath the silver moons sphere
Her orbs flicker
Like a colourful dream
Upon natures blanket
Sewn within its seam
Golden showers of fairy dust
Among the flowers they glide
In between the lavender
Where the fairies like to hide

05 - A Hero

A hero thinks of others before they think of themselves
A hero will die to protect
A hero can be of any age, any colour
A hero can be man, woman or child
A hero is courageous, loving and brave
A hero will never complain
A hero can be made in one act of compassion
Or years of tender loving care
Some hero's are remembered, whilst many are left forgotten
Hero's are angels in disguise, saving precious innocent lives

Summer into Winter

June stars
January moon
The light dies too quickly
And the dark arrives too soon

April blossom
And august bliss
The frost in the winter
Seals your lips with a kiss

February snow
October trees
When summer dies
So do the leaves

November rain
March flowers
When winter comes
So do dark hours

To Sara with love

Out of the blue it came for her and took away her young life.
She was their daughter, their sister, their mother, their wife
In one short moment she was gone,
He knew he would take her, he knew it all along.
Without a word, no word of warning,
Now her family left in grief and mourning.
And allthough seasons change, and death may sever,
Memories of her, will stay with them forever,

To sara with love, a lovely kind friend we shall miss deeply
night night x x x

She Lives Alone

She lives alone in a house on a hill.

Sitting in her favourite chair
alone by the window she'd sit and stare
waiting for someone to pass her by
anyone to notice the tears in her eye

She lives alone in a house on the river

Standing at the open front door
alone on the porch, she waits for an hour or more
waiting for someone to pass her by
anyone to notice the tears in her eye

She lives alone in a house in a wood

Lying in her cold single bed
still and alone, for she is dead
she was waiting for someone to pass her by
anyone to be there and say goodbye

Womens Intuition

We know what we want, when we want
And we're not afraid to ask
When we find, we we're right all along
We relish and in the moment we bask
Call it women’s intuition
Anything you desire
Women are more intelligent than men
Women are so much higher
Women control their lives
We are strong and so not weak
We can tell when you men are lying
From just the way you speak
We always have a comeback
For anything you say
We will always win the fight
We'll never back away
So don't forget to bow
To any women you meet
And try not to boys
Wolf whistle at us in the street

33 - Dirty Linen

Dirty linen hanging on the line
Mistress romps spilled red wine
Extra overtime and late nights
Blood stained gutters and fist fights
Secret whispers behind closed doors
The speculation you try to ignore
Your life and lies become black listed
People you hurt wish u never existed
Dirty linen hanging out to dry
The sanctity of marriage cheating ways defy
Mistress romps spilled red wine
$2 a minute sex hot-line
The smell of cheap perfume lipstick collars
Meaningless love for a night, a fistful of dollars
The cause of her pain and dulling heartache
The vow of marriage this man did break

09 - Honour under the Old Oak Tree

Lay low under the old oak tree
Ready to move, ready to break free
Lay low until the dead of night
When the moon awakens and the time is right
When the wolf howls at the crescent moon
And the nightingale sings that old familiar tune
The oldest act of a gentleman's chivalry
Is portrayed to the woman under the old oak tree
The meeting of a woman and her forbidden lover
Stolen moments they devour to be with each other
Never their hands intertwined for others to see
Just un-denying love under the old oak tree
Never permitted unguarded smiles for other to see
Just un-denying love under the old oak tree

30 - The Devils chair

A suicide note
I carved on my chair
With a rusty old key
Wrapped in devils hair

Tied down and gagged
Steel chains around my wrists
Hell’s fury builds up inside
As I close my immortal fists

I draw a Lucifer smile
As my human body plays dead
My eyes turn from black
To demon yellow and red

I reach for his dagger
To disengage the void I can’t bare
As crimson acid rain falls
Onto my suicide chair
