A Poem Just For You

Today I decided to write a poem just for you
So I sat down with pen in hand, and began to
Carefully consider in which way I could express to you
All the things you mean to me,

First I thought to write a poem about your radiant smile,
All about how you easily outshine the sun.
Or perhaps a poem about our friendship,
All about the kind things you do that fill my heart.
A poem about how grateful I am to have you in my life
All about how I thank God every day for putting you here.

But I decided to write this poem on something else
All about something that is a poem in itself
A poem that simply says I love you
A poem just for you.

Oh Beautiful Rainbow

Feeling the setting sun burn against my back
I stood alone in grim anticipation
Watching the black sky roll inexorably toward me
But it was right then that you caught my eye
Oh beautiful Rainbow

Even though the endless horizon
Be Overshadowed in shades of gray
In your brilliance you stand out among it all
Bringing a small smile to my lips
Oh beautiful Rainbow

Your colors shine like a beacon of hope
Captivating me as I stand in awe of you
And though I couldn't perceive a light in the coming darkness
I could see you, and that was enough
Oh beautiful Rainbow

But Rainbows are something many have chased
And not one ever held their beauty in his hands
