The Amazing Yellow Daisy
I love to see the yellow flowers
As I travel to different states
It’s a very prolific plant
With all the appearances it makes
It seems to blend in nicely
With other wild flowers around
Although not so very pretty
When it lives in parched ground
It grows beneath a windmill
Adding a bit of yellow color there
Yes, strong and so resilient
But it seems to want to share
I’ve seen it too in Texas
Scattered throughout the state
It’s like it has a statement
That it truly wants to make

Nature’s Red Dirt Touch
There’s nothing quite like
A walk on nature’s red dirt trail
So much beauty we touch
So many stories to tell
A meadow of spring flowers
Cheerful with their shade of yellow
A longhorn out in the field
Oh, what a handsome fellow
A barn faded and worn with age
Still able to stand up through time
We continue down red dirt roads
So many of nature’s treasures to find
And then we see in out in a field
Beautiful Elk gracing peacefully
Yes, a nature walk is something
That we all need to see

A Place Called the Matador
They started cooking food
A very long time ago
Creating a recipe because
They loved the Chile relleno so
Perfection the objective
Ingredients fresh and fine
To bring forth a creation
That nowhere they could find
So the spent many hours
Of every single day
Cooking the best product
In their very special way
Chili’s are most important
Ingredient of this food
Dough was mixed as well
Oh, it was extremely good

Autumn Once Again
As the days grow slowly shorter
And summer fades away
I look forward to autumn
Its cool and crispy days
Pumpkins in the patch
Waiting to be cut
Yep, it’s turned to autumn
It has a cooler touch
The chill in the nighttime
Is drying all the leaves
As they fall in the wind
From off the maple trees
It smells so sweet and earthy
So fresh and oh so clean
We bundle up in daytime
For it’s frosty while we dream

What is Poverty?
What does poverty really entail?
How bad does it have to get?
For some a bad economy
Is poverty from where they sit
But if you look back to hard times
During the early years
It’s not having a home to live in
The hopelessness can bring tears
The Great Depression had it all
No jobs and no place to dwell
Barely enough to eat or nothing at all
These folks went through hell
Thread bare was the term for clothing
Dirt poor was a phrase as well
Looking at black and white pictures
Oh yes, you can surely tell

Stepping up to Life
Do you ever stop and think about
The chapters of folks’ lives?
They started from absolutely nothing
Took on a husband or wife
Bought a house and then planned
A family, one kid at a time
Careers went into the mix
It’s all so interesting, I find
Bought a car and chose a pet
Tried hard to make it all work
Responsibilities piling up
Mysteries would constantly lurk
Chapter after chapter of their lives
Ticked by till retirement came
Some responsibilities gone
No, life was never the same

An Icy Winter
Brrrr, it’s cold this morning
Ice cycles hanging from the fence
They look like clothespins on a line
In a world so frozen and tense
A herd of cattle across the lake
Their frosty world is strange
They look a little bewildered
As they roam across the range
The trees are iced up carefully
When nature turns off the heat
One of the winter surprises
Sometimes we’d rather not repeat
Our breath stops in the air
Clusters ‘round our head
I’d kind of like warm weather
But we have the cold instead

A Lovely Picnic with Friends
Oh what a lovely day it was
The weather warm and sweet
Packed with friends we cherish
No better folks could you meet
We barbequed dogs on the grill
Out in the bright sunshine
Enjoying the open sky to eat
A meal that was truly fine
Burgers too were grilled just right
Topped with onions and stuff
Just simple tasty scrumptious food
Without a lot of unnecessary fluff
Deviled eggs so perfectly made
With a sprinkle of paprika on top
A delicious blend of flavors
That really truly hit the spot

Travel Flowers
When you travel ‘cross the country
You see along the roadways
Bright and cheerful flowers especially
In the warm spring and summer days
I love the beautiful sunflowers
Bold yellow blooms you see
Nodding in the gentle winds
Seem to say “hello” to me
White flowers ‘long side a trail
Roots go deep in red dirt
Stand out just beautifully
As they crop up in little spurts
Old barns off in the distance
In the midst of a field of dry grass
Are dotted with many flowers
Oh, I enjoy them when I pass

The Last Stop
We had a wonderful time
When we visited Wichita, Kansas
What a good idea it was
And what a perfect day for us
We stopped for Stroud’s chicken
And you really wouldn’t believe
The delicious food we ordered
And the great service we received
The salads were not only tasty
But beautiful for us to see
Fresh and so delicious
How ideal it was for me
Chicken brown and so crispy
And yet tender and juicy inside
Why, it just couldn’t have been better
With fresh green beans on the side
