Tribute To All Poets

Poets in awe
beauty of the sea
swimming the ocean
begging to be free

Poetry in motion
Walking the land
Carving out each word
Deep down in the sand

Poets hungry
Devour each page
reach for each meaning
put on a stage

Poetry screams silence
during blackened night
with the glow of the moon
shining silvery white

Little Girl Left Alone

little girl left alone
where'd her parents go
they went for ride
and never came home

little girl left alone
doesn't have enough to eat
she digs through the garbage bins
in search of some meat

little girl left alone
at night she has to roam
the river banks and railroad tracks
cause she doesn't have a home

little girl left alone
has her daddie's eyes
a wild shade of violet
that darken when she cries

The Tale Of Midnight & Me

muddy with the rain
she didn't look like a cat
I couldn't explain

it was black as night
drenched and so very tiny
it tried to take flight

I picked her up
she licked my hand and face
took her to my place

what has thumbs on paws
is pure black with yellow eyes
a cat with no claws

sits on a place mat
can eat whatever she wants
she never gets fat

Just A Mirror On The Wall

I'm just a mirror on the wall
and I've been in this place way too long
many times I seen the faces
of those who know they've done wrong

If I could talk what would I say?
some of them primp, some of them cry
eventually everybody passes by
I'm so glad i can't talk cause I'd have to lie

a mirror in the hall
a mirror on the way
I am just a mirror
but your reflection tells it all

If I could talk what would I say?
as everybody passes by
making sure they look their best
for the big meeting is today

The Crossroads Between Heaven & Hell

Listening to the symphony of sounds from my cell
I'm at the crossroads between heaven and hell

Remembering back through all of those years
the laughter, the pain and so many tears

Skipped through childhood, danced through teens
loved and cried in our twenties; had kids in between

The depression of life had me shivering in fear
wishing I was invisible or could just disappear

No more pretending to be something I'm not,
as I summon the courage that time has forgot

I've gathered my strength; pulled together my rage
put my life down in a book screaming from each page

Skipped through childhood; danced through teens
loved and cried in our twenties, had kids in between

When Innocence Doesn't Matter

I've been there before
When I wasn’t even guilty
What they found didn’t belong to me
But they made me feel so filthy

Put me in hand cuffs
Then put me in shackles
While they put me in the police car
I swear I could hear evil cackles

You’re gonna get it now
You won’t get out this time
Your gonna do a bid
For your freaking crime

But Your Honor it’s wasn’t mine
But it was in your CAR
But still I don’t smoke that stuff
Must have been the guy from the bar

For My Foster Sister (about growing up with mom drunk)

We used to run through the sprinkler
we double jumped & skipped rope
we danced along to the radio
our lives were filled with hope

then something made her dad leave
and soon her mom was always drunk
she didn't have clean clothes to wear
she often felt like a dirty punk

she didn't have anyone to talk to
and the shades were always pulled tight
her mom didn't want any noise
and hated when she turned on the light

she no longer made her lunch
and asleep when she came home
she wore a ratty bathrobe
and never used a comb
