Broken Promise
for a moment all went quiet
as quiet as the day
gray colored winter's beginnings
frozen in dismay
she felt his eyes upon her
turning instinctively
for a moment all that existed
vanished
except the space in between
he is the story with no ending
that begs to be retold
he is the secret unshared
that even he doesn't know
the fight resumed within her
as she drove away
promised herself no more tears
but she broke that promise today

Another from my youth
a curtain across the sky
chases the stars away
the moon's light shines beyond it
seems the moon always finds a way
but not anymore for this girl
though years ago it set me free
winter nights in the moon light
a warm kiss from my love
as the wind played our song in the trees
it used to give me hope
when I thought you might be looking too
I used to think of ways
ways I could be with you
but now I've reached the end
a locked door with no key
now that you're gone forever
even the moon can't set me free

Truth in Me
backed away too late
...stayed too long
should of left when I knew
but even leaving
would have been the wrong
disobedient tears
when a song reminds me of you
how I depended on your strength
amazing what time in your presence could do
I remember your words in my weakness
when no answers can be found
I stand true to what you taught me
but sometimes it gets so lonely on this path now
in a place where I found healing
and the person who was always hidden in me
I was lead by a most strong and kind friend
who invested more than anyone else I have ever seen
I miss you so
I miss you more than you'll ever know...

Wretched Ways
they are all connected
every single one
scratch your back
scratch mine
with evil lying tongues
the time clock
a free for all
who knew she worked so hard
she must be invisible
since I'm always there before

and plan to live up to it

he may be the most brilliant
most brilliant I've ever met
I had specific needs this place covers
but there's more to where I'm at
what I'm learning is making me stronger
new ways to handle myself
almost like a test of who I am
or will I break down and become like everyone else
I've had a milestone and some setbacks to be sure
but now that I am past them
changing myself for the better, working for the future
if this test fails I would remain
at a level that I can't stand
but as I'm overcoming
it's like I'm still clearly led by his hand
success doesn't come easy here
around defeating attitudes
but now that God has renewed my strength

there are times of preparation
hard to explain
I do the job of many
so longer are the steps I take
for example today was not just today
but for this week, spring and next year
I could have been done by now
where I want to be
if I had been willing
to sacrifice people close to me
there are times of preparation
a subtle smile, a gentle fire
guided by a vision
fueled by desire...
plan for success

a ghost in my vision
shadowed by the day
strange how strong my
thoughts this morning
to manifest later
and by what means of sway?
hold tight
to a tree in a storm
whose roots go well deep
battered, torn and bleeding

even when on your knees
only God knows how long He will supply

he compels her to be
everything everyone else is

living by comparison
only does harm

Beautiful Thoughts
I remember a rustic place
way back from the road
hidden by brush and trees
overlooked if you didn't know
each day I'd pass and strain
to see more than the day before
bus driver might have slowed down
if I had asked her
but I didn't want to share
that place with the others
I imagine an area cleared out behind it
perfect to grow plants, all kinds
pots randomly place on the stoop
with flowers flowing down
a spicket to water them with
and bird houses all around
a hammock made for love
at a secret place in the woods
sounds of a creek nearby
