At The First Light Of Day

I now create poems at daybreak
Each one has a sunshiny theme,
Capturing thoughts as soon as I wake
My text resembles a dream.
I consider friends over the ocean
As I write my poetry in motion.

Birdsong is sweet at the dawning
As I welcome the first light of day
And words overflow without warning
~ I think I have found a new way ~
Writing verse with care and devotion
The story of Poetry In Motion.

Ex-Soldier's Wonderful Day

The good fight is won
I toiled in the sun
But today is a wonderful day.
Those in distress?
Not one I guess,
Gunfire is far faraway
Silent over the Bay.
And immortal romance
is here to stay.

How gentle is love
With my golden one,
Promise of a wedding in May.
Home is a pleasure
A life of leisure;
No hazy smoke-screen of grey
Just clean air in fields of hay
And immortal romance
Is here to stay.

Education, Education.

How very well I remember
The Second World War
And Winston Churchill's Coalition.
Parents of grammar school children
Seeked assistance with their mission.
Education was the Act of the day...
School fees were no more,
Great news for the poor.
The school leaving age was increased,
Slightly higher than before.
Yes, an important Act calmed all fears
During those memorable wartime years.

London To Paris

Paris, the city of gaiety
Paris, oh city so bright
Paris, with girls continental
We are crossing the Channel tonight.

Euros we will spend by 'the plenty'
As soon as we step on your shore.
We love pretty girls continental
The shine in their eyes we adore.

We'll reach the top of the 'Eiffel'
Admiring the wonderful sight,
And we'll walk along the Champs Elysees
As we visit the City of Culture tonight.

Just A Fading Twilight Song

Moving with steps of perfection
Mannequins were tall and refined.
They modelled the gowns so gracefully
In days of roses and wine...
Along the catwalk, floating on air,
To the latest romantic beat
In silken dresses and gorgeous furs
Hairstyles simple and neat.
But where are those lovely dancing girls
Where has their spotlight gone
Are they only wrinkled sepia portraits
With a declining twilight song?

The Great Artist and Poet

Many many moons ago
great poet and artist
Italian Michelangelo
mastered the sonnet
and the madrigal,
writing them for his
'poetess rose'
Vittoria Colonna,
whose bright light
still glows.

Artistic achievements
remain high in glory
'The Last Judgment'
tells a virtuous story.
Having lived a long life
his sculptures are rife.
In Florence and Rome
tourists may view,
and the privilege is

No Limitation

From the day we met, somehow we knew
no other hearts could be so true,
capturing feelings from deep within
in church we sang a wedding hymn.

Being older, we were wise,
love's bliss brought magic to our eyes
we lived our lives ~ a romantic story
devotion never lost its glory.

'No limitation' to happy hours
we walked and talked amid the flowers
greeting nature at it best...
we fell in love at God's behest.

The Fairy Queen

On lawn of green with floral borders
Hid little Elf, with twinkling eye.
Whilst 'Tangerine' the fairy queen
Sang to him ~ Brahm's Lullaby.

Came then, another fairy singing
To tempt the elf, way down she flew.
Calling him her elfin darling...
She stayed until the morning dew.

But Tangerine returned at midday
For little elf was cute and shy
His love was hers alone forever,
As she sang to him Brahm's Lullaby.

Europe 2009

Europe has many great cities
Including London, Paris and Rome.
Rivers are mentioned in songs and ditties:
The Danube, the Rhine and the Rhone.
Longstanding classical buildings
Attract tourists from over the sea
Structures updated, protected
As great works of art should be.
God being willing ~ standards of living
Will reach a higher degree,
And people will be happy and healthy
In the United Europe of the free.
