Amy, My Baby

We were at the beach on a cold day when you said
'Daddy'
and I cried
filled with pride
that you chose me over her

The Julabunder

The Julabunder is a beast
more teeth than animal
more animal than man
more man than terror
more terror than anything AT ALL! !

Polka with me, Mastiff

He's a big dog
tall dog
brown dog
likes to run around dog...
the yard
the street
the drain
as he swirls
down down down
and he just wont dance
wont pick up his paws
to meet my knees
though he'll chew
and he'll speak
and he'll roll
with the punch
drunk dog
Good Dog.

Not Enough Channels

I understand that when
you own the cable TV,
you can watch Law and Order
pretty much constantly,
and HBO and Showtime
at times show shows to see,
and I understand that even
local channels aren't blurry.
But I'm too poor, and can't afford
such a fine luxury,
but you wouldn't know, since you watch your shows
over in gay Paris.

Hair Die

She had fake blue hair
the kind God can't give you when you're born
the kind only a human can give you with chemicals
when you're in your teens and want to be cooler or more different than the rest
But I liked her.
Alot.
And she wouldn't give me her number
because my hair and eyes weren't exotic at all.
They were, and are, brown.

Worm Food

Dad once took me fishing
When I was a happy boy
And taught me how to hook a worm
plunge my fingers into a gooey cup
Where the little things squirmed
In dirt and pluck out a juicy one,
Hold its length toward the hook
And just, go ahead, push,
like putting my arm
Through a coat sleeve.
We all die one day, he said.
Don’t you worry.

Happy Is Good

There’s a place this man can
Be as happy as a clam
And he squeezes you so hard that
He finds pearls in his hat
Where his hair should probably be
But he since changed back to a baby
And now he’s cooing in your arms
And working all his many charms
And hoping they’ll be just enough
To keep this happy from getting tough
Because happy is Mmmm,
Is Mmmmm, is good
You should
Be happy
Too!

More Hair!

You've already taken my lunch, my socks, my long-distance binocs,
Now what do you want?
More Hair!

My jeans, my spleens, my workout magazines,
They're gone, now you want?
More Hair!

I gave you my gum, cilium, chromium,
my green shoes, my feet shoes, my mangy old street shoes,
Come on, you want?
More Hair!

Give me my CDs, my TVs, my Wheaties and my Levi's.
Know what I'll give you?
More Hair!

Lady in the car

Walking, head down
lost in thought
I stopped at the sound
of screeching tires

I almost stepped
in front of the car
while crossing the street

The lady in the car,
young, red hair, freckles
impatiently beckoned
in my direction

Soon there was screaming
and scrambling
skinned knees on pavement

I'm sorry - I thought
you were saying I should get in the car,

If 1 And 2 Were Equal

If 1 and 2 were equal
we'd have as many hearts as fists

If 1 and 2 were equal
we'd have confused shopping lists

If 1 and 2 were equal
there'd be less phone numbers to dial

If 1 and 2 were equal
noon would surely last a while

If 1 and 2 were equal
there'd be a nose under each eye

If 1 and 2 were equal
you couldn't say no to 'you and I? '

If 1 and 2 were equal
I think I'd be much more happy
