In Name Of God

In name of God they pillage and destroy
And in name of God they chose to fight and die
And their enemies their enemies because
They worship different God with different laws.

When I was young a wise man said to me
That God belong to all humanity
And that god could only feel disgust and shame
When humans for their war cry use his name.

It's religion that cause the great divide
And in name of God far too many have died
They go to war and worship God in song
But the God they fight for condemn war as wrong.

And even in the twentieth century
We've yet to learn from past history
Still in God's name men go to war and die
Whilst God looks on with disapproving eye.

The First Of 08

The first day of 08 a warm and a humid day
And weeks of weather such as this on the way
A furnace like breath in the afternoon breeze
In a forecast high of 39 degrees
From the constant heat their only form of ease
The sheep congregate in the shade of the trees
The renowned chirpers house sparrows the only birds one does hear
On the first day of January in the Southern New Year
In towns and in cities from here near and far away
The revellers of last night are hung over today
A cool change is coming in the forecast we do hear
As to the prime of Summer we are drawing ever near
The first day of January and so warm is the sun
And another New Year has already begun.

As If Life Without Power

As if life without power is a meaningless thing
Ageing political leaders to their power base try to cling
It does seem their egos are out of control
And to garner more power in life their only goal
For to cling to power they spread rumors of fear
And negative stuff from them is all we hear
Ambiguous with their words they know how to deceive
But then suppose we believe what we want to believe
To woo gullible voters they turn on the charm
Make believe that they can protect us from harm
For victims of terrorism shed crocodile tears
Woo votes by hugging babies and silly old dears
And we vote them back in on Election day
The fools never learn as a wise one did say.

Far North In The Green Fields

Far north in the green fields of old Lisnaboy
Just learning of Nature I used to enjoy
The warm winds of Summer from the south did blow
And young birds chirped on bushes and trees and hedgerow
And the meadows scented sweet of the newly mown hay
In July in Duhallow in a place far away
From this Southern Land that I live in today
Where the father of time has left me looking gray
Fond memories of a happy boyhood I retain
And in fancy I visit the old fields again
But the mentors of my young years with the dead do now lay
And all of those I grew up with walking slower today
But in memory the swallows above the fields fly
And the cuckoo he sings in the warmth of July.

On This Beautiful Day

The waves of saltwater lap up on the sand
On this beautiful day in a beautiful Land
on the drying kelp and sea weed starlings search for sea lice and sand flies
And the calm coastal air full of silver gull cries
The sun shining bright 'tis a beautiful day
And the weather is warm for late Autumn and May
The wattlebirds call on the banksia trees
On a perfect day with only a slight breeze
The Autumn all but gone and the Winter is near
But this is such a beautiful time of the year
One of Nature's most beautiful sounds for to hear
The flute of the magpie melodious and clear
And how nice for to hear the song of the peewee
On this beautiful day in the park by the sea.

Don't Tell Me About It

Don't tell me about it life can be unfair
The homeless and paupers have never been rare
In the refugee camps of the World millions of refugees
The victims of hunger and war and disease
Don't tell me about it I already know
That where weeds are abundant the grass does not grow
'Tis a near and impossible climb to success and renown
For those who are born and raised in the poor side of town
The landscape around us destroyed by men of greed
Those who worship money are not a rare breed
Where pollution is rife there is only decay
For the greed of the greedy we all have to pay
Don't tell me about it I already know
That the seed of a parsnip into a carrot doesn't grow.

The Man Who Loves Women

The man who loves women by women a sought after man
He is loved by Rosy and Kathy and by Julie Ann
You ask them why do they love him and to you they say
About him he does have a nice caring way
Some women like macho men that is their choice
But Rosy and Kathy and Julie Ann like men to be nice
And not rough in their ways and caring and kind
The macho type of male is not hard to find
The man who loves women never puts women down
And he doesn't feel he is the hunk of the town
He is not possessive or in any way rough
And he doesn't think he is macho or think he is tough
A gentle and caring and loving young man
That's why he's loved by Rosy and Kathy and by Julie Ann

Some Women Like Their Men

Some women like their men gentle and some like them rough
And some like them clever and some like them tough
When it comes to the male kind few women agree
We all look at things one might say differently
Some women the macho type of a bloke do prefer
The refined type of fellow is not one for her
And good looks and youthfulness to some little to amount
The one with heaps of money to them only count,
Some women than others are harder to please
And some go for a man with the Uni Degrees
And some women do prefer muscles to brain
How chemistry works in people is beyond me to explain
When it comes to men few women agree
We all look at things one might say differently.

The Most Famous I Am Poem

The most famous I Am poem was penned by John Clare
When he was in Northampton mental asylum and burdened by care
A poem from all others that set him apart
For life's poor and forsaken a cry from the heart,
A poem by an aged poet lost in the lost years
The most famous I Am poem move many to tears
A poem written by one who knew about despair
That poem his reality such poems are rare
The most famous I Am poem tells of an Earthly Hell
Known by the fringe dwellers the mentally unwell
The song of an old poet forsaken and gray
The truth in his words is still living today
And though the renowned old wordsmith to the reaper long gone
His famous I Am poem it is living on.

On Receiving A Christmas Card From Nora

A Christmas card from a friend far away
It takes me back again to boyhood day
She was a woman when I was young boy
Some forty years ago how time does fly.

She was a good friend to our family
And nice to know she still remember me
A friend and neighbour of the very best
And one of the kindest souls of Millstreet West.

That Christmas card from Nora took me far away
Back home to Millstreet Town and Claraghatlea
And Christmas was a special time of year
A time of Santa, Christmas fun and cheer.

A Christmas card from friend of years ago
And no friend like old friend we used to know
And a card from dear friend is a gift of joy
And it took me back to when I was a boy.
