Ricardo

Ricardo is a poet from Argentina
And at South American dancing few with him compare
And he has become known around South Gippsland
And sad to say men like him now are rare.

Ricardo is a very funny fellow
And I mean funny in a humorous way
At parties and get togethers he's good value
And one has to laugh at some of the things he say.

He lives in Dalyston off of the Bass Coast Highway
And he has brought some culture to the place
He is an easy to like sort of fellow
And he always has a big smile on his face

Ricardo is a poet and a dancer
And to the culture he came from he's true
And he's the life and soul of every party
And he is very good at what he do.

John Masefield He Wrote Long Stories In Rhyme

For many years England's Poet Laureate but that's going back in time
John Masefield he wrote long stories in rhyme
True genius of him none could deny
His great poems to his greatness testify,
In the Literary World John Masefield held in high esteem
Of his era perhaps the poet supreme
As a young man as a deck hand he spent some time at sea
And much of the bigger World out there he did see
His Saltwater Ballads his ticket to fame
And in poetry his became a household name
His last remains in Nature's bosom lay
But his long narrative poems are read and enjoyed today
Far from England's shore by many a Masefield fan
He lives in his poems the great Ledbury man.

Music And Song

To song and to music people dance along
And life all the better for music and song
When the musicians play and the singers do sing
Great joy to so many they always do bring
Music and song belongs to all people not to any one race
And amongst every culture commands a high place
From the North to the South Pole from Brazil to France
To song and to music people inspired to dance
The gifts of the gods to humanity
Without song and music far worse off we would be
To every tune ever born there's a song to be sung
And music and song are for the old and the young
They were born as soul mates and as soul mates they remain
And for music and song let us hear it again.

Not A Hero To All

The greatness of the greats we well may recall
But the hero to many not a hero to all
Not everyone holds big names in high esteem
Some are not easy to impress it does seem
That no two are the same does seem fair to say
And some not into hero worship in any sort of a way
In the ranks of the star struck they do not join the throng
And who is to say in thinking they are wrong
Yes not everyone looks up to the great one as great
And the ranks of the star struck never join to celebrate
The praises of heroes they never do sing
They go their own way and they do their own thing
You will never see them at a victory parade
Out of all sorts of people Humanity is made.

Lets Hear It For Women

Lets hear it for women a huge hip hooray
They are the unsung heroines of today
We need them as leaders to educate men
With wise women as leaders less wars for to win
At the hands of men they have suffered for years
Lets hear it for women for the young and old dears
With wise women as leaders the World would stand to gain
Lets hear it for women i say it again,
To the women of the World my toasting glass i raise
Since tis time we did sing their overdue praise
For centuries and centuries by men they've been kept down
Make way for the women tis their turn for renown,
The mistresses, the spinsters, the mother and wives
Tis about time we celebrated their lives.

Most People Love Nature

Most people love Nature in their own sort of way
And the voices of Nature we hear night and day
The artists sketch Nature and the poets sing her praise
And the wonders of Nature never cease to amaze
Our Earth Mother the one who does live as she please
The babble of her rivers that never does cease
The unmistakeable soughing of the freshening breeze
In the woods and the fields in the bushes and trees
Her beauty is everywhere all around me
Where-ever I turn to look I do see
Her marvellous creations are before my eyes
And every day for us she has some new surprise
Her creatures of night and her creatures of day
Most people love Nature in their own sort of way.

The Black Feathered Songster

The black feathered songster with the golden bill
He sings on the tree by the babbling rill
The song of the blackbird melodious and clear
A familiar voice in the Spring of the year
In his song males of his own kind the message of warning does hear
To my borders you better not venture near
At this time of year his own kind not a friend
In his song a warning that his patch he'll defend
Concealed in her nest from predator eye
His partner sits on her eggs in a bush nearby
When she and her mate back to Nature have gone
Their genes in their young are destined to live on
Birdsong to us may seem a beautiful thing
But 'tis not out of joy that the songbird does sing.

Four Seasons In One Day

Yesterday it was twenty degrees or so
And this morning it feels cold enough to snow
But Melbourne weather known to be that way
The place you get four Seasons in one day.

In mid morning a heavy shower of rain
And then the warming sun shine out again
And later on the wind blow to a gale
Accompanied by heavy showers of hail.

And quick as the hail storm came it then subside
This Melbourne weather like Jekyll and Hyde
The morning fine could make a sunny day
But will it rain? how can one ever say.

In Melbourne in the early days of Spring
As weather goes you expect anything
The morning fine but take your hat and coat
As four seasons in one day it has been wrote.

Try To Live Happy

In life you should make the most of every day
And respect to others be willing to pay
And try to live happy for time ticks away
It does not wait for anyone as some are known to say
'Tis a fact of life and facts never lie
We are born as mortal and all mortals physically die
But if to your higher self you remain true
Good karma it would seem in heaps you are due
Though of a life hereafter I cannot claim to know
Respect for the beliefs of others I show
And though I believe it is not possible to know of the unknown
It took a wise one to say to each their own
Any act of kindness on your behalf is never too small
And I admire you for believing on a fair go for all.

Jack Davis

A mentor to his race and the pride of his tribe
Jack Davis the poet and Indigenous scribe
The ex stockman from Yarloop in his lifetime knew fame
And in Australian literature his lives as a legendary name
An honourable man as well as a very fine poet
Jack Davis was one who is worthy of note
To natural genius his poems testify
And greatness of him none could ever deny
He passed on in his early eighties some eight years ago
And his legend in death only does seem to grow
Honoured in Australia his and his people's Homeland
The Nature of his Country he did understand
A credit to Australia and his Indigenous Race
In his Country's literature he commands a high place.
