A Babe's Requiem

Wars are fought by babes with a gun,
fought by them but never won.
Taught to think that war is just,
to preserve freedom is a must.

So off they march to foreign lands
and soon they're mired with bloody hands,
praying that what they're doing is right,
shooting and killing both day and night.

While back at home we continue to buy
and let the flags continue to fly.
Reading the news, watching the scenes
not understanding, it only demeans

What human life is all about.
Why babes were born and how they've turned out.
Pointing the finger at imaginary foes,
forgetting to point at the white shirts of those

I Wo'nt Look Back

I need to take a bus, a train
or maybe a jet airplane
to go where I can't see you.
For I can't remain
in this place where I'd see you
every once in a while,
and think about the chance you blew
to walk me down the aisle.

So I won't look back
'cause I'll only come up aching.
No I won't look back
and let my heart keep breaking
No, I won't ever look back.

So many promises, so many words
that put me on cloud nine
all came crashing down on me
for those words were never mine.
How many girls had you said them to?

The Touch Of Your Hand

On the day that you were born
I touched your hand so chubby and warm.

I touched your hand when you were one
and helped you walk my beautiful son.

I held your hand when you were two.
We ran, your favorite thing to do.

I held your hand when you were three
as you climbed on my lap and smiled at me.

I touched your hand when you were four
as the ocean touched our toes at the shore.

I touched your hand when you were five
walking you to school but when we'd arrive

I felt the tug of your hand from mine
and I knew that we had crossed a line.

The Bridge To Love

Across the bridge there was a girl
I used to watch each day.
She sat alone and never looked,
never glanced my way.

Her beauty was a rare delight
I did not want to miss.
And so I sat and imagined
that we two could kiss.

But lacking courage to approach
I held back and I viewed
that at the same hour every day
something would change her mood.

A woman came to help her stand
and led her from the bridge.
She seemed unhappy as she left
surrounded by green foliage.

So Unreal With You

I can't explain just how I feel
'Cause how I feel is so unreal.
I try to tell you but you just steal
all those words I can't reveal
'cause how I feel is so unreal
with you,

Every time we are apart
all those feelings in my heart
get all mixed up. I don't know why?
And that's why I feel
so unreal with you.

*** The sun has lost its glow
But the moon still lets me know
that I'm breathing just for you.

If I had my way with you

Magic Carpet Ride

Take me for a magic carpet ride.
Let that magic carpet glide
slowly so I can see
all the places where misery
lives every day.

Let it glide over Iraq
so I can see why our boys can't come back
to their babies and wives
and try best they can to get on with their lives.

Let it glide over the Gaza strip
where two nations are joined at the hip
and don't even know it.
I can see the misery from where I sit.

Let it glide over the oil fields
where they pump the lifeblood that the earth yields.
Black gold all for a price
in a bloody war of sacrifice.

The Attic

Climbing the stairs to the attic up above,
she stopped a moment to think.
What will I find in the rooms so cluttered?
Everything under the sink.

For no one had been curious enough
to see what they could find.
She'd been the one in her family
to never leave anything behind.

And so she entered the musty rooms
and slowly took everything in.
The boxes, the piles and clothes of old
that belonged to most of her kin.

She tried rummaging through pictures
of people she knew right away.
And still there were other faces
whose memories did not stay.

The Red, Red Rose Of Sanity

There is a red, red rose
that grows outside my pane.
A pane that's never opened and where I must remain.
I don't know how long I've been here
or how many years.
All I seem to remember is a red, red rose appears.
As I look outside the pane that's spaced by iron bars,
the only other thing I see at night time are the stars.
The rose that grows outside my pane
I wish that I could touch.
The feel of it I do not know, but the sight's a red, red blush.

They feed me and bathe me and then they bring me back.
And then they give me shots and a pill they call Prozac.
It's then I become so quiet and no one even knows
that the only thing I live for is to see my red, red rose.
Sometimes I hear them talking as I sit there by the pane.
Most words I do not understand except the word 'insane.'
I think it means that something in my head isn't right.
How'd this happen to me? Why is this my plight?

Lifting the Veil (The Threat To Mankind)

What good is looking back on things that have occurred?
We never seem to learn from lessons we have heard.
Can't we just focus on a future filled with love?
Can't we learn forgiveness? 'Cause when push comes to shove

that's the only way we've a chance to survive
all this human tragedy that's being kept alive
by hatred, distrust and resentment in the heart.
It's tearing at the fabric of which we are a part.

The threat that's coming is coming for us all.
The threat's not from mankind.
That's not how we will fall.
We'll fall because the enemy we're facing's built a wall.
But before we can climb it, we will have to crawl.

Humans have been tricked into a belief that we're alone.
How this has happened is a story that's unknown.
The masses believe that our enemy is man.
This is not the truth ever since the world began.

The Amulet

The gift I received so long ago, I wore for
protection wherever i'd go.
Inside was your picture. You were my beau.
So many years have passed by since then
and now to my memory it comes once again.

I wrapped it in tissue the day that you died
and put it away until my tears dried.
My life seemed as if I never could find
the reason for living, as though I were blind.

Why did you leave me? Where did you go?
The days of my life, they moved too slow.
As I grew older my mind went to sleep.
The tears, my love I couldn't even weep.

And then one day a flash in my mind
told me there was something I had to find.
A pendant, a charm or an amulet?
Oh let me remember. Don't let me forget.
