Some Things I Believe
I believe in second chances
I believe in love again
Where blessed true romance is
Shared by two as friends
I believe in opening up your heart
I believe in sharing all
From what is really the very best part
Of breaking down the walls
I believe in loving from yourself
I believe in one plus one
When one and one give of themselves
And have only just begun
I believe in here and now today
I believe in good tomorrow
Because when comes that wonderful day
With you I’ll know no sorrow

Lay It Down
For too long it tortured me
You see
The guilty
Is free
For too long I carried it around
And found
Was astounded
By the sound
Of breathing a sigh of relief
No grief
The thief
Made disbelief
The hallmark of my shame
And blame
The game
Always remained

For the Lady by the Lake
I believe in you and have for quite awhile now
I believe in you and you might not even know how
I believe in you and to you I will make this vow
That I will believe in you as long as life and breath allow
I believe in you and how your many talents run
I believe in you because you care so deep, barring none
I believe in you even when each day is anything but fun
And I will believe in you even after all the dealing’s done
I believe in you because you are my dearest friend
I believe in you and on your caring I depend
I believe in you and against all others will defend
Because I believe in you and will long past my life’s own end

I Have a Secret to Keep
I have a secret to keep
A secret to keep that deprives me of sleep
It deprives me of sleep but leaves me a smile
A smile when I think of what I feel inside
What I feel inside is the start of something good
Something good that leads to something nice
Something nice that could become something more
Something more than just a smile
Just a smile is what I wear these days
These days when I think of what could yet happen
What could yet happen could be extraordinary
Extraordinary, special, overdue and because of you
Because of you I wear this smile on my face
This smile on my face that reveals my feelings
My feelings that have grown when I thought they were gone
They were gone the last time I got hurt
I got hurt before you came into my life but
You came into my life and put a smile on my face
A smile on my face only hints at what’s inside and
What’s inside is a secret I get to keep

My Favorite Time
My favorite time of morning
Is that time of morning when
I have a cup of warm coffee in my hands
And the sun barely peeks over the land
When the day is yet unwritten
When I am alone in the quiet
With thoughts of you
To keep me company
At my favorite time
My favorite time of the day
Is that time of day when
I hear your voice or see your words
And I know you are engaged in me
As I am engaged in you
As I am replete with thoughts of you
Warm thoughts of you
Across the miles
At my favorite time

During the Time We Were in Love
During the time we were in love
I heard music play
A whimsical tune of fancy and promise
Of affection and tomorrow
Singing quiet hope of what could be
During the time we were in love
Within the days when I called you mine
I felt like dancing
To the music I heard play in my heart
Like gliding across a stage
In time to the swing notes played for us alone
Within the days when I called you mine
All through the season when we became one
I felt like shouting
Out loud for what moved again in my soul
It had lain dormant for years
Yet you had awakened it in joy and I felt alive again
All through the season when we became one

Things I Love
I love the sun
I love lying in the sun, relaxing on a lounge
Working hard for a cold glass of sweet tea
Playing in the water, fishing in the late afternoon
I love the sun very much
But not as much as I love you
I love a glass of wine
I love a glass of red wine beside the company of a lady
Talking over the day, bathing in the winelight
Listening to soft music by a fire together
I love a glass of wine very much
But not as much as I love you
I love the words
I love forming the words into meaningful tapestries
Searching for just the right phrase, the perfect sound
Projecting what’s on my heart to you, good reader
I love the words very much
But not as much as I love you

Much That I Remember About You
I remember you
I remember the first time I saw you
Looking up and there you were, an angel on earth
It occurred when I didn’t expect it, wasn’t looking
Seeing you and thinking that you were pretty
Seeing you and wondering why, afterwards, I
Remember you more now
I remember your voice
I remember the first time I heard and it enchanted me
Dulcet tones playing hypnotic music disguised as a woman’s voice
It happened in conversation, in the harmony of all you spoke
Hearing the coy happiness in the words we shared
Hearing the smile in your tone so that I
Remember your voice now
I remember your eyes
I remember the first time I became lost in them
How it was a time when our eyes met in more than just a glance
It happened in a moment, together with you
