Ballad of the Broken Heart

Standing on one side of the bridge
You on the other
Burned at both ends
of the times we spent with one another
As the bridge slowly crumbles apart
A melody starts to play
The Ballad of the Broken Heart

Reminscing of a secret love affair
Wallowing in the pits of despair
This isn't the ending
Its a brand new start
As a melody begins to play
The Ballad of the Broken Heart

For a wounded heart time does not heal
Only gives it a better conceal
In the beginning like a flower our love arose

I Know.....

I know,
Sometimes things don't work out as they should
We tried to hang on as long as we could
At times its hard for you to understand
Please, do see that I try
Love at times just gets out of hand

I know,
Time is of the essence, unlike before
You getting older is harder to ignore
Any troubled times we have to fight together
With each other, we'll make it through any storm, any weather

I know,
I'm just a simple man, I don't know it all
But I'll be there to listen any time you call
Help you understand your first heartache
Discipline and teach with each mistake
I'll be there watching you as you graduate
and yes, give your hand away when you find your soul mate

Seventeen years on the graveyard shift
Retetitive work leaves her hands in pain
Swollen are her feet, fifty hours a week

All she has to show for her pain

A cigarette on her midnight break
As every muscle continues to ache
Knowing when arriving home her work is never done....
Wake the kids, rush them to school
Only then the real work has begun.
Grabs her pail to tend the garden crop
In the Kentucky mud, only the best potatoes she will shop
Put the beans on the stove, peel the potatoes,
Feed the children, tuck them into bed
Only then her work will stop
