Biff McGuire

Poetry is

Always at my side
Revealing to me all I need to see
Unafraid to expose every mark of beauty
And all scars from her past
Verse, song and limerick
Excitement, relief, and depression
Written or read, alive or dead
Lady of the night
Wrong and then right
Hypocritical, finicky, sexy words
Like a fine wine
First sampling the bouquet
Then sipping the sweetness
And quenching desire with
Bottoms up

Poetry is my pornography

Words of Balance

Depressing when you’re a little to happy
Good for a laugh when you’re down
Helping love escape it’s shackles
Politics under a microscope
Applauding nature
Loving life
Condemning industries rape
Hating life
Tales of personal history
Success, failure, self destruction
Addressing elements of justice
(or, lack of them)
Our words are the counter weights
Placed carefully as needed
To balance fairly
The scale of humanity

I Need Your Smile

I need your smile
If I can’t have you
Then let me have your smile
I need your eyes
If I can’t have you
Then let me see your eyes
Let them draw me to your face
And see your smile
I need your words
Let the music of your words
Fill my head
To make me watch your lips
And then desire
To kiss them once again
Like in the past
To look into your eyes
To witness your sweet smile
The music of your laugh
To want you once again
If I can’t have you

Do You Know the Power That You Have?

Just a glance from the corner, the wink of an eye
an innocent brush as you try to squeeze by,
The smell of your hair and the sound of your sigh,

Do you know the power that you have?

A naive young man, in a nasty street fight
defending her honor, not wrong and not right
a possible death in the yellow street light.

Do you know the power that you have?

A child growing up is her fathers' true pride
always honest and loving, with nothing to hide.
Responsible still, for his feelings inside.

Do you know the power that you have?

From a lifetime of learning you now have to teach,
to the young and upcoming, success is their reach.
