Would-Be Birthday

Today is your would-be birthday
You would be 23 today
but you aren't here.
You would be living a life
worthy of your legend.
You would be listening to me
tell you I love you
and that we've only got one more year to wait.
Today is your would-be birthday
You woulda been
coulda been
so much more.
But it's only your would-be birthday

Children's Eyes

Through childrens eyes I see joy
Sunshine, flowers, rainbows, smiles
Wonderful things that bright up your day

Through teenage eyes I see sorrow
Suicide, tears, shattered dreams
Sad things that make you cry

Through adult eyes I see hate
Death, destruction, war, violence
Terrible things that tear up your heart

Through my eyes, I see what they see
Joy, sorrow, hate
Things that make up life
