Gorky Park

This is a story not for the dainty elves and pixies
But for the youthful X-generation born in the rolling sixties
Just like Woodstock had a twin in Altamont
The west and the east united in the 80s at the center of a pont

The iron curtain came down in this bygone era
No place for communist royalty nor for a beret or a tiara
As the winds of change blew through Gorky park
Flames of solidarity were lighted for a fervent spark

On the east side of the Brandenburg gate crowds duly did flock
To escape the communism's iron fist lock
As the wall came tumbling down even faster than humpty-dumpty
Rolling on the ground were the scraps of a barrier almighty

Even the oriental east did feel a tremor of change
As in a populous square the mighty tanks were tamed
Even as the Guzheng strummed tunes of freedom
Stubbornly holding was the great wall of the oriental kingdom

Poppy's Hold

The suns raps like burning lava on the skin
As the peau embraces life in its scorching thin
Where the bactrian camels roam in absolute glee
Where fields of poppy smile in their domes of free

Not a mercenary but a proud soldier within
As the terrain desecrates the life from within
As a bomb explodes taking away the carrier's life
Hoards of innocence at mercy in the unfolding strife

I have a picture of her in my wallet's space
My guarding savior from the bullet's brace
As life's timber fall like the Amazons in Brazil
To the delighted faces of a few in the cheapest of thrills

She is a nurse in making in the badlands of Lakota
An Indian princess in the pieces of Dakota
A lass with a simple outlook and kind eyes
As I long for her kiss in these badlands as time rarely flies

The Pastor

He was a boy next door from the fishing village of Galle
Who answered his tug from heaven like Saul abiding to God's call
A quiet voice peeled away the solemnity of his peace
As the boy transformed in tune to a new life's lease

Then he joined the halls of a budding boys seminary
Yet one eve while going to town (Kohuwala) , he encountered Marie
A dainty lass with a heavenly gait and an eternal smile
As his life metamorphosed from the road less traveled, to a woman's guile

Yet the pull of God was complete and steadfast
Like a giant arm from heaven steering your heart
As the prayers parted his lips with a solemnity unforeseen
A life of prayer and solitude beckoned away from his queen

Then one day as he took his solemn oath
Amidst the white overalls there was a lass who loathed
Her lover's commitment to God, unwavering, even amidst her passion and love
As his lips parted with agreement, to serve the downtrodden with fraternal love

A Mahout's Tale

Gazing at a colossal giant standing gracefully tall
The heart rallies to engage a rare humanity's call
To free from a tether a bosom ally, from harrowing chains
For a walk towards freedom, to the vast opens of the forests and plains

My heroic breadwinner as displaced are the boughs and stubs
Yet the sorrowful heart valiantly wallops and clubs
My giant ally my livelihood's knight in shining armor
I've treated with scant respect at the dearth of heart's enamor

I remember the day when I encountered this giant's might
As the villagers fled in flocks in a frenzy of fright
Yet I remained strong against the delicate creature in front
As with a tranquilizer and net, I did encounter a creature to affront

As the days passed the creature metamorphosed to an angel
Like platonic lovers in a fairytale the beast in me with my mystical belle
Belle looks at me with her colossal eye lashes waving in the breeze
As I put on a shirt in creamy white sans a single crease
