Theodora Onken

I Recall..

Today, i recall you all
Across the winds born of yesterday
Over moments spent in growth and change
You, a breath-taking memory of my youth;

What are you all, but the heartbeat of my childhood?
When days lingered, it seemed, longer than forever-
When the Seattle rains caressed our nubile skin...
And the not too frequent sunlight graced our summering shoulders;

You are the Rose Garden of my growing years
And the fragrance of joy misting itself through Washington State air
The play times of hide and seek and tag; Of Christmas and Easter Egg hunts through recollections of sheer joy;

Today, i recall all of you...
In truth, you never left my heart or mind, ever! ! !
As friends, God parents, and Blessed Gifts
Who disappeared off of my horizons way too soon;

You are as engraved heartprints

This Thing Of Ours

In the twilight of this quiescent moment-
I peruse this thing of ours-
Querying this palpable abtruse connection-
Am i deluded or wrongly perceived by the stars?

Has the universe literally taken me for a ride?
Perhaps upon an illicit comet 'round the sun?
Causing abhorrent disregard for my well being-
Vaporizing in a luminous tail, out west when day is done...?

Convoluted conundrums are borne in the daylight-
All the while under the eye in the sapphire sky-
Sincerity 'tis now a necessity from you-
Flowing tears arrive as raindropps from my green eyes...

Vale To Shore Through Mother Earths Door

So breath-takingly dressed in Earthen garb--
Moss and dandelions for her hair---
A chocolate brown-evening gown--
With accessories so rare;

Earthen minerals dazzle her graceful neck...
With agate stones for her delicate ears-
Soft cotton shoes-in a cobalt blue...
Such a beautiful reflection in the rivers mirror;

Mother Earth sizzles this day--
On her way 'cross Emerald Vale--
Villagers stare-quite beguiled by her hair--
'Tis a Green-Earth Dancing Tale;

Her flaxen mane flows ever graceful--
Her dazzling eyes-a brillant blue...
With skin-a dream-of peaches and cream--
Her life- a lush verdant hue;

The Translucence Of Charcoal

Today you stopped, looked, and fell
Into your own self-made hell
All brazen, you dared to ring our bell
Knowing that camera's always have a story to tell;
Perched in your car seat surveying...
Perhaps all the while praying-
This is the message that we are conveying:
You cased our chrome window and door...
Looking for more and more-
Not really knowing what might be in store;
You were put up to this task!
Even though you were not wearing any mask
Soon, in the limelight, you shall bask!
Your face and your car
Now a movie, oh shining invasion star! ! !
With us, you shan't get far;
Police know who the ringleader is...
He's up to his neck in illegal biz
And believe us, he is no wiz!
All of his plans are doomed to fizz;

What Real Friendship Is

Friendship sails 'cross all kinds of seas-
The calm, the stirred, the galed...
Serene, difficult and outright stormy...
But true friendship-it never fails;

You come together open-hearted-
With profound respect and devotion-
Tied together with a common thread-
That can sustain any waves of the ocean;

The mark of true friendship stands...
Even when ones skies turn grey-
It is not just partial to sunny fair weather...!
Or absolute attendence come what may! ;

For oft' times we get side tracked...
From our own personal tragedies or worse...
Leaving us sometimes absent but never forgetting...
Our true friends in lifes most gifted verse;

Sweet Lorraine

April came with its answers...
And oh, how that Spring simply flew
The bad news ordered radiation and toxins
I knew, we were beginning to loose you;
Your barefeet pale against the fresh cut grass...
Pinks and Carnations abloom with hope filled smiles
Golden red delicious apples fell to the ground
As, i walked, this our summer time mile;
So many gifts of time HE had given to us...
With each season-we continued to grow and know-
Your eyes-as blue as the summer sky
And in the summer sun-your falling auburn hair still glowed;
But dreading Autumn and all of its changes...
Having to watch your once perfect form grow thin
Skin and bone, against the burnished Fall leaves-
Loosing the battle, you had hoped to win;
The harsh November wind claimed you...
Watching you fade into the icy frost
November 17 came calling like a thief in the night-
Your beautiful life-alas 'twas lost;

Thoughts~

It's just a golden oldie afternoon
A time to remember and review
The starlings and sparrows are playing hide and seek
Next to the In and Out bird bath 'neath the Mulberry
Footsteps from my past tip-toe in
As i revel in remembrance of the California Redwoods
Santa Monica Pier, and Muscle Beach
Just a childs snapshot of pure paradise
Where vacations usually always meant California;
Fast forwarding to this day
Wrapped in it's new September hues
Russet, copper, orange, and gold, soon to emerge
Bidding August a fond but much needed adieu
Saying good-bye to the sizzle that turned our land
Into burned layers of dried hay;
I have become infatuated with the new fragrances
My spirit lifts with a gentle abandon
Awake in the new progression of circumstances;
Pain visits me this day as she did yesterday
And serves as a reminder of my not so solid home;

I Will Remember You (A Psalm)

Lion of the Senate-

Gladiator for all just cause-

Camelots last standing son-

A kind-hearted soul with few flaws;

You became a big part of me-

Long ago when i was very young-

Embracing your entire family-

Since Johns presidency had begun;

Can You Hear Me Lucinda?

I am yelling Lucinda...
Asking you to open up your ears--
For you have been deaf far too long--
For way too many years;

Theres so much that you've missed out on...
With those ears that have been closed...
Can you hear me Lucinda?
All of the rhyme, the reason, the prose? ;

And what of your eyes Lucinda?
How long are you going to just keep looking away?
The truth is staring you in the face, Lucinda...
All of the horrid of yesterday! ;

Is it all just too heart wrenching?
Too much for your broken heart to face?
Can you hear me now Lucinda?
Beyond all of the ruffles, trifles and the frilly lace? ;

The Bully

S.S. Bernardo traveled the seas-
Oh so high and mighty-he preened-
His long dark curly locks were blowing...
At last, his true character has been seen! ;

Oh-it took so many years...!
As Betty tried desperately to cover his course-
But its been said that too many cooks oft' spoil the brew-
At last-a break in this malevolent force! ;

S.S. Bernardo came calling...
'Cross thirty years or more of deep-deep seas...
Ever vowing to keep that promise he'd made...
Back in the days of a much quieter breeze;

He promised to drive much less unruly...
In order to view my eyes emerald green hue...
He is still stuck on the belief that i am in debt to him...! ! !
Oh Lordy-if he only knew the hell i've been through! ;
