The Royal Heads Went Rolling

Down the pebbled path in town the royal heads went rolling,
Past the boys and past the girls and past the couples strolling,
Though new heads grew to take their place and continued to oppress,
For empowered fools will always rule the pools of powerless.

Hang In There

I have to hang in there a little bit longer,
If only to watch the drama unfold,
For I have been told by mice who keep scratching,
That nothing makes sense and no one is matching,
And out in the trees I hear baby birds hatching,
And creatures that seem very old.

Afterthought

Stinking of hormonal musk,
Completely lost, distressed, distraught,
He's stiffer than an ivory tusk,
Upon this microscopic dot.

And yet he makes the best of things,
Without a plan, without a plot,
Strumming on his fine-tuned strings,
Harping on an afterthought...

A Summer Day At The Swimming Pool

A summer day at the swimming pool,
Women in their bathing suits,
Bearing their forbidden fruits,
Water glistening like a jewel.

Lifeguards like the judges rule,
And won't hear your refutes,
Though children still all act the fool
On a summer day at the swimming pool.

Lost Jewels

I lost my jewels in a dream,
That in my open eyes did gleam!
And so I went in search of them,
Though could not find a single gem.

I lost my golden chest of diamonds!
I lost my soul on silver islands!
And finally I died, alone,
And was buried beneath a slab of stone.

Alone in the Doldrums

A calming sensation sweeps o'er me slowly,
My sailboat is still, my spirit lonely,
Sinking in solitude, sorrow, despair,
From the love, care and kindness that never was there,
And we know it's not fair, but we all die alone,
In the doldrums of silence- unreal and unknown.

Limpet

I plod and toil, toil and plod-
A mirror for Almighty God!
Feeling for what none can find-
Justice, Faith, and Love- all blind!

And as a gastropod, so lowly,
I slink through life's facade, so slowly-
And cling to my small rock, sublime,
Leaving behind my trail of slime...

Woe

I tried to rid myself of woe,
Though woe refused to let me go,
So I dropped it fast and ran like hell,
Then stopped at last when all seemed well.

I glanced around, though could not see
If my woe had followed me-
Alas, I winced, and since then know
A man can never rid his woe.

The History of Man

The history of man is fraught
With violent conflict, all for naught!
The young and brash each other thrash,
Climbing to the climactic clash!

Wave after wave all churn and lash!
Wave after wave all turn to ash!
So many stabbed, so many shot,
So many murdered, all for naught!

Pure Obscurity

As ants crawl in the shade of trees
Another lonely creature dies,
And all of this occurs in chorus,
Right before our mortal eyes!

And somewhere far-off in the distance
I hear the frantic buzz of flies,
Though soon their sound in fully drowned,
As I ascend through brighter skies!
