When Love becomes a vehicle

Driving that blue Volvo
Parked strategically in a free spot
Escorting me through Chicago streets
Adept at the social nightlife scene

I was won over by one toss of the Frisbee
Because you set yourself apart immediately
Owning the room you only stayed briefly
I knew you understood how to have fun

While you have been the subject of other poems
I know in reality I never knew you
Sure admiring, wondering considering from afar
Your symbol remains a used blue Volvo

Now a mature, responsible adult
I would never play Frisbee when going out
Unless I was at a golf course
Alone with my daughter of course

Fishing at 3am

One day we drove to the Zion power plant
To go salmon fishing at 3 am
I had accompanied you on many trips
Once you dragged out a large cat fish

On this trip the wind blew
As we strode down power plant pier
You brought the fishing pole and box
But we clearly forgot boots and rain gear

The grey water splashed against the cement pylons
As you casted and casted looking for fish
After two hours time the first glimmers of light
Broke through the grey of that early spring morning

Walking back slightly defeated
We noticed a Mexican man casting
Wading in the swirling water
He pulled out a giant spring salmon

Winds bend the brown green grass of fall

Winds bend the brown green grass of fall
Whether in current age or decades past
Landscape gazers catch creatures storing seeds
Scattering yellow and white capped weeds
Preparing for winter their pattern unhindered

Winds bend the brown green grass of fall
Constant marker as mankind races
Ploughs terrain staking claim
Highways vanquish sod and plain
Yet tuffs of the brown green grass remain

Winds bend the brown green grass of fall
Off roadways geese settle and call
Despite cluttered asphalt the landscape recalls
Natures evolving, preparing and readying
For ice glistening cold when life sleeps through all

The Song and The Lyric

Jerry felt the music deep within his soul.
Music that echoed through the ages
Music of the human experience
Painful and beautiful
He did not know how to give it a voice.

He could sing, and he learned to play.
Songs that knitted together threads of time
While creating and playing songs
He heard his inner music
And his quest for the perfect song began

He shared his love of music
With a few special people
Who also had songs within their souls
But only a few understood his passion
And no one understood his quest

Until he met his accompaniment
Who also wrote songs
