Grandad Played The Banjo

When my grandadpassed away-He left his old banjo to me-He played it unti hiis death-At the age of eighty-three-One of my fondest memories-Was hearing my grandad play-Old-time songs on his banjo-At the end of a summer day-Often on a balmy evening-Grandad brought his banjo to play-Daddy joined in with his guitar-And we passed the time away-We gathered on the back porch-Sometimes neighbors would stop by-Often there was some singing-Of pretty songs by our granny Di.

City Beyond The Sun

There are no burdens to bear-No tears are shed, not one-Peace and Joy will reign forever-In that city beyond the sun-Wouldn't you like to go-To that beautiful city on high-There's only one train that goes there-Don't let it pass you by-Gold will buy many earthly things-But it will never pay your fare-To ride that great Gospel Train-To that majestic city up there-When this life is over-And Eternity has begun-Will you be among the dwellers-In that city beyond the sun.

It Will Be a Glorious Day

When we reach Heaven's shore-We will leave our troubles behind-There will be no tears in Heaven-We will have no worried mind-It will be a Glorious day-It will be a glorious day-When we arrive in heaven-It will be a glorious day-When we hear the trumpet sound-We will sail up in the air-We'll leave behind our burdens-There's only joy and peace up there-We'll be welcomed in by Jesus-When we enter heaven's door-Once again we'll see our loved ones-That have gone on before.

Retirement Blues

After thirty years of working -
I thought I had it made -
I said to myself-
I'll lie in the shade-
I'll read half the day-
And sleep the rest-
My wife had the notion-
That she alone knew best-
She said mow the lawn-
And go and walk the dog-
You're lying around here-
Getting far as a hog-
My dreams of relaxation-
Went right up in smoke-
I found that retirement-
Was only a joke-
I'm really still working-
For the rest of my life-
The only difference now-
The boss is my wife.

Cousin Clyde

Cousin Clyde spent much of his time
Walking up and down the street
He never failed to whistle
At every pretty girl he'd meet
Cousin Clyde was quite a bit different
From any man we ever knew
He loved all the pretty women
Yey he was afraid of them too
A girl once flirted with Clyde
He was a rather good-looking man
That scared him out of his wits
And he turned around and ran
Clyde wrote so many girls letters
None of them ever replied
It just wasn't to be
That Clyde would have a bride.

Pidgeon Roost Hollow

I'm living upon Pidgeon Roost Hollow-Where the sun seldom ever shines-Trying hard to make a dollar-Working in these dreary coal mines-I'm not happy on Pidgeon Roost Hollow-Tears are streaming down my face-If I ever get enough money-I'm sure gonna leave this place-I could never find the right woman-That I wanted for my wife-I had to accept the painful truth-I'll be a batchlor all of my life-I'll travel away down south-Where the days are filled with sun-I'll try to save enough money -To buy a little home for one.

You Can Get There From Here

My dear friend you're hooked on drugs-You've lost your husband and your career-You want your old life back-And the things you held so dear-You want to get clean and sober-Free of drugs, whiskey, and beer-If you do a whole lof of praying-ou can get there from here-You can't find strength to break the habit-Often you wished you were dead-Each day when you wake up-You don't want to get out of bed-Your parents are so broken-hearted -Because you ended up this way-You fell in with the wrong crowd-And your life went astray.

My Dream

I dreamed a dream last night-I wonder what it mean't-In my dream I was old and grau-With back and shoulders bent-It seemed I was in an awful place-All was was dark and drear-I was alone, my friends were gone-The ones I loved so dear-My heart was heavily burdened-But still I could not cry-None would hear me if I did-It seemed that I might die-Suddenly out of the darkness-The dreadful black of night-My eyes did not decieve me-I knew I saw a light-It shone so bright it hurt my eyes-But that I did not mind-My heart felt light and happy-I was not left behind.

My Little Girl

Verse#1-All I have in this whole world-Since Charlie passed away-Is my darling blue-eyed girl-Her name is Sarah May-Verse#2-Charlie was a heavy drinker-He visited the Bar each night-I wasn't shocked to get the news-He'd been killed in a fight-Verse#3-Though he was rarely ever home-We miss him since he's gone-Our little girl's too young to know-Her dad will never come home-Verse#4-Mommy when will daddy be home-She asked while at her play-I said he's gone to Heaven-We'll go visit him someday-Verse#5-I hope that God in Heaven-Will help me guide her right-So she'll live her life for him-And follow in his light.
