Down For The Count
Sadness and lonliness hit hard
Srike early in the morning
Without warning
His heart is on fire
turned inside out
losing this bout
He lies on the canvas
waiting to be saved by the bell
Sucker punched by private hell
But the bell doesn't ring
Neither do angels notice or sing
Left to die in the ring
A fighter wants to get back up
Not by strength, but by heart
But it betrays him...It's broken apart

Love and Faith
All we have is love and faith
So much of life is fragile
We learn
And can be taken away
So much can go astray
But for love and faith
The last things to leave us
The first we hope for when we stray
The two things we pray
Even when heath and youth wither away
We may or may not feel loved ourselves
But if we have love in our heart we are truely blessed
And if we have faith we have what is best
Because God will see us through the rest

Remaining Silent Is Not Love
Love is unafraid to speak
Love is bold
Love is Truth
Love perseveres
Love has no bounds
Love knows not fear
So love often is the voice that points out an offense
Love is often the voice that stands up and says 'NO! '
Love is the voice that battles injustice
Love is the voice you wish to turn off because the truth hurts
Often the very one we run from..is the one who loves us most
But love forgives
Love will take you back in
And when you know Love your heart will mend
And you will smile again

Where Are The Women?
All I see are angry young men
All I see is hatred
All I see is anti-American
All I see is vengeance
All I see is machishmo
Testosterone with nowhere to go
The way a stallion rises one last frantic time
As he sees the bridle and saddle coming
All I see are bloodthirsty mobs
In the supposed name of religion
But no religion condones any of this
Where are the women hiding?
Where are the voiceless women?
Those trained for generations to comply
About the world they are bringing babies into

I am not the freight train
I am not the rail or the wheel
I am not the conductor or the caboose
I am not the the mail car
Neither the dining car nor the meal
I am not the rail or the spike
I am not the timbers or the pike
I am not the hammer or the strike
Neither the coal nor the fire
Neither the electricity nor the wire
I am hard and cold
I glow red and gold
and rust as I grow old

A Friend Will Tell You
A friend will tell you
What nobody else will say
That there is toilet paper on your shoe
The rest is up to you
A friend will notice what you don't see
And will try to better you
A friend will try to pick you up
When you're feeling blue
Not only to yourself
But also to your friend
You must be true
The rest is up to you
If you are hurt by a friend
You both end up feeling blue
Because you care about each other

Yellow Butterfly
Found a large wounded butterfly yesterday
beautiful in it's yellow and rainbow colors
Still alive, struggling frantically with broken wing
Carefully, sadly, placed it among the bright flowers
Knowing they will die together in the last days of summer
But hoping they might die together happily
Alive, the butterfly rested and clung to a flower
As if it was mended...
At peace to be returned to it's element
Not understanding the fate that had befallen it
A little girl picked up the detached wing
And clung to it, admiring it's beauty
As I pondered hers
And the circle of things
Envisioning my own death

Friends Can Sense
There are degrees of problems
a friend can sense when one of their freinds is hurting
It may be very sublte
or not so subtle
but a friend can tell
A friend will always come to the aid of their friend
this is what freinds do
A friend will always try to comfort
or lessen your burdon
or to make a frown into a smile
A friend will put aside differences
in times of trouble
and forget grudges
when they sense the there is an urgent problem

That Cat Won't Sit On Your Lap
She warned me
That cat won't sit on your lap
She won't let you pick her up
And she won't let you sit on your lap
She likes to rub her head on you
But that's it
She won't let you pick her up
The cat looked at me
I looked at her
I let her rub her head on my leg
I look at her again and made a cat noise
She said, you'll see, she doesn't let anybody pick her up
I just looked at the cat
