It Once Was Mine

Once upon a time I thought eternity was mine
The days were long the nights a song
The mirror showed a flawless face
And trouble seemed a seldom case
The feet had wings and carried me
Up on the hills in ecstasy
My faith in mankind still intact
Most kindness shown was not an act
The years speed by and left their mark
The last chapter I now embark
The touch of a silky summer night breeze
Would make my heart feel at ease
Hearing a Mockingbird high up in a pine
Would assure me the day is mine
To the sound of music let me laugh and sing
May memories cling like precious dewdrops
Caught in a spider's web, little secrets forever kept.

Morning Reflections

One early morning
I looked into the mirror
And remember the day
My reflection told me
Now don't run away!
Those wrinkles resemble
Years spend in the sun
And if you remember
Admit they were fun
The lines on the forehead
So long and so deep
You got from getting to little sleep
The smile is still the same
A little more weight is not a shame
The feet get quickly tired
But walking on the road still gets me wired
The long hair that once blew in the breeze
Has been shortened and ceased
Life still trills me and happiness fills me
To wake and hear a robin sing

Childhood Memories

Each hour that passed and every moment
Gone by become a memory
There will be sad ones but most happy and gay
Childhood memories like models of clay
Sunny days spent along the river edge
Resting in clumps of clover
Picking flowers to overfill
Endless hours spent on violet hill
A race to the very old tree
With a feeling of being so free
To dance around it's matronly base
Every one ready go let us chase
That elusive butterfly purple and blue
The world only belonged to me and you
A plunge in the river immersed in emerald green
In touch only with silence a silver sheen
Drifting down to pebbles and stalks
A world of pleasure beyond believe
It once was mine but not to keep

Dream In A Thousand Droplets

Unswerving the water runs over familiar steps
Taking along the energy that filtrates each drop
The water runs over my body creating silver rivulets
Clinging to my skin turning it wet and resilient
Forgotten are time space and all tribulations

There is you and eternity in a timeless existence
I reach and you are there beneath the falls
Time stands still only the moment matters
The language of loving hearts perfumes the air
Etching the scent in every rock and crevasse

I release my hold letting the moment fade
A sense of well being sustains my soul
The sound of a sweet timeless acclamation
Takes me away to a safe place within the realm
Reality calls but repose has sealed my fate.

The Art of a Woman

In the valley of despair life starts at early dawn
Silver rivulets from last night's dew cover the grass
A red sunrise promises a day that will be warming
Slowly the women rise from under the covers on the ground
Which remain warm from their body's heat and vivid dreams
A longing for a day that promises a reward for living
Leaves them all breathing a heavy sigh
Bent backs, sad brows, hair streaked with gray
Performing routine tasks with expert timing
Slowly like sand in an hourglass time churns on
Month turn into years, and years into eternities
Only when the Master calls the receipt is paid in full
Left behind the empty shell of a onetime being
Who has fulfilled her task in the timeless annals of history

A Life Encounter in Shekomeko

Many a rides I have taken
Through villages barely awakened
Green grass and blooming flowers
Whispering willows at morning hours
My joy is never ending
Too many wondrous sights are blending
Into meadows and sleepy lanes
Sheep and cattle gleaming white fences
Leave bedazzled my senses
But there is no pretense
Driving through the village
I have never seen a Mensch
But what a surprise on that beautiful day
I will never forget that moment in May
Strutting the left side of the lane
Was Peacock proud and vain
He walked with a majestic stride
Gleaming feathers what a sight
Straight ahead was his gaze
After all Shekomeko was his place

The Immigrant

Twos early morn when I boarded the ship
And Mama gave me one last kiss
I walked up on the plank
Scared with a shaking hand
A wave good bye from down below
Mom's face fading I loved her so
For days on end the bow pushed foamy water
The homeland shrank close came the US border
On a cold morning in December
It was Lady Liberty I always remember
Tall and proud she greeted the crowd
All were standing along the rail
She welcomed the young and the frail
How many years have passed
Since that eventful day
How many springtime's in May
Life engulfed me took me into the fold
In the meantime I have grown old
I traveled near and traveled far
All the beautiful places I saw

The Significance of Freedom

Spread your wings famed American Eagle
And soar over the land that has seen its share
Of beauty sorrow and great change
Fly into the rising sun and listen to the beat
Of morning drums on the hillside
Dive into the blue water and grasp the hapless fish
Unaware of your magnificent presence
Use your ever prevailing intellect to sustain you
When lean times arrive and a snowy blanket covers all
Your friend is the warmth of a beguiling summer day
To us your presence assures freedom and strength
To proudly pursue and revel in your mystique
Let us feel honored sharing with you the same land
That we may never forget what truly matters and let
Your symbolic presence remind us we all share
"The Land of the Free and the Land of the Brave".

Der Veilchenberg

Es war einmal und ist nicht mehr
Sind viele lange Jahre her
Die Sonne schien ein Vöglein sang
Und in dem Fluss die Fische sprang
Ein sachter Wind bewegt den Baum
Unter dem ich sitze wie im Traum
Meine Hand nach duftigen Veilchen greift
Mach ein Kränzchen davon leicht
Empfinde ein Gefühl der Heiterkeit
Entschwunden sind all Sorg und Leid
Mein Blick streift über Fluss und Tal
Vergessen ist des Lebends Qual

The Day My Soul Flew Free

Undaunted by troublesome burdens
On a day when clouds darkened the sky
I unburdened my soul and let it fly
No earthly bondage was able to hold
My spirit was soaring and feeling bold

Behold all the beauty you're able to see
At the time of my travel the world was still free
Nor draught or destruction plagued the land
But a calm perfection catered by hand
God's unsoiled planet and all its land

Snow covered mountains and trees so tall
My heart felt like bursting taking in all
The rivers flowed flawless and unabashed
Silent forests and waterfalls splashed
Meadows and valleys in sunlight bathed

Upon my return my soul just wept
Seeing so many landmarks unkempt
