An Encounter in Poetry

We've met in poetry discussions
Within a professional ELT environment
Which gathered thousands of teachers
Eager to learn, updating contents.

Words of welcome and introductions
Opened the way to our thoughts
Which were spontaneously brought
Through streams of emotions.

Different posts had come to light...
Expressing our views on what we feel and write.
Lovely poems were enthusiastically posted
Some were simple others refined.

We did perceive some depth of thinking
Which fascinated us entirely
Depicting poetic stories so nicely
In a unique language of inner feelings!

Abro Janelas Para O Mundo...

Pergunto-me por que razão
isto acontece...?
O sono ainda não obedece
O coração quase estremece
Tudo é diferente em redor.

Ao despertar pela manhã
Há outro ritmo constante
Num vai-vem estonteante
Pr'a cumprir com afã.

Abro janelas para o mundo...
À espreita da Educação.
O fascínio pelos temas
reaparece num segundo
E acontece alargada discussão.

São, também, as questões do 'Teaching English'
Numa troca de experiências invulgar.
Saímos da saudosa sala de aula e...

London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics

27th July- a British milestone
Welcoming two hundred and four countries
Through a parade of emotions, no fears,
Sounds of music and loads of cheers!

The Olympic Village vibrating
Glorious noises breathtaking
Thousands of volunteers on the show
Efforts crowned by a human glow!

The Stadium is attentive now
To a variety of sporting players
All struggling for their performance
Years of training, hard work, endurance.

From Rowing, Cycling, Swimming
To Gymnastics, Fencing, Archery
They're pushing hard, hopefully
For their attempt to winning...

The King's Speech

That afternoon session
made such a big difference
from glorious days of the past
when youngsters and elders
in crowds gathered for a film and its cast.

The audience were small
but the film appealed to all
and once the lights were switched off
much of England's history
and the kingdom's stories
were lively unfolded.

There was a great suspense
around the movie room
focusing on George VI - so tense-
all awaiting the king's speech
after disturbing, moving scenes
of the speech therapist's endeavours
and tender family love.

Beyond Digital Sounds

These may be sounds of a word player
Enjoying punctuation marks
Throughout a sync speech
Eventually a low pitch
But they're rather sounds of a lover.

Nothing compares to that music
Sounding amidst those nice words
Heard through a string of emotions
Shared with live punctuations.

Three dots mean for her a lot
Be it clearly expressed or not
Hinting at new lovely threads
Stories without commas she treads.

The talk goes on out of curiosity
Punctuated by the question mark
Which was typed by thee.
Then, we go ahead until next thread.

Opening Windows To The World...

I wonder why this happens...
A regular sleep does not obey yet
The heart suddenly reacts
Everything around is different, in fact.

On waking up in the morning
There is another pace running
Going to and fro, and...
Accomplishing great tasks, you know.

I open windows to the world...
So to browse on culture and education
Then the fascinating themes instantly come
Providing lively and wide discussion.

Amidst others, the ' Teaching English' topics
Plus 'BBC Global Minds',
In a unique exchange of experiences.

We have left the traditional classroom...

Just Reflecting

Is there any war worth its aims and targets?
Shall we accept winners and losers
Keeping on fighting and threatening with continuous air strikes?

Do you really think this is a question of...
power, justice, bravery, and determination?

Do international leaders feel it as an accomplishment?
Do they end up feeling more tranquil
Just because UN has provided emergency relief?

Where's the strong will, mutual understanding,
and sensible spirit of cooperation?
Where's flexibility, respect for human rights,
and fair democracy to free every nation? !

Hundreds (or thousands) of lives have been destroyed;
Innocent people whose dreams have been buried!
Tell us why weren't they protected?

The Rainbow Gathering

We were not there,
But we really hope our impression can be fair...
We simply got a view
From a read on 'The Rainbow Gathering'.
Now we'd like to share
How they joined that community
For some days of cooperative living.

They all came from different states,
Made their way across thousands of miles,
Joining people of all ages and styles,
Just wanting to celebrate The Independence Day -
Focusing on mutual learning,
Cooperating in a friendly way.

Volunteers moved to and fro...
After cooking their tasty food
They served it, and everyone whooped: 'OH! '

It was a huge human circle of thousands,

From Destruction To Reconstruction

From images of devastation,
deep pain, and sometimes even revolt,
come before our eyes living tokens
of humanitarianism, solidarity, cooperation -
noble life lessons encompassing courage
springing from all the ones who truly act
with deep respect for Nature
and for the human being dignity.

Children's eyes are sad and distant-looking
as if they still were feeling the unlimited strength
of the giant waves moving! !
Brave young people keep projecting their dreams -
across a land that is now more sacred -
as though those dreams were being offered
to their parents and other beloved ones
who left for good!

Men and women bent in their weary bodies,
desperately wanting to honour past memories,
