The Pleasing Kind Words And Courtesy
An elephant is controlled
by fastening to a heavy post, (kattuth thaRi) :
The furious cobra is quietened
by blowing special trumpet, (makudi) :
The wretched unworthy men are punished by beating,
subdued by law-enforcing person, usually King,
and tied with iron hand-cuffs;
The pleasing kind words and courtesy
- by good thought, speech and deed -
are the factors sufficient to develop intimacy
with virtuous and worthy people indeed!

It Tastes Like NECTAR
To be an unwanted guest
sitting alone in the absence of the host
eating food 'hot and shining like an eye of a cat',
It is not delicious, but considered 'bitter like neem';
If you happen to eat in a house
where you are greeted kindly with respect,
the host also accompanies you to dine,
however they are poor;
Even if they provide cold watery gruel,
prepared with poor quality rice grains,
It tastes like NECTAR,
imbibes with your mind and body.

If you want to win over others
If anybody don't want fame, but ignominy,
he can go for begging in the community!
If your name has to be established in the good sense,
Do service to the mankind and make a mark in the universe!
What comes with you in the end and what you take with you
is what good deeds you have done to the people around you!
If you want to win over others with whom you compete,
Leave the anger; and with everybody be kind and polite!

A Brahman Wins By Tactics
A person who owns oxen and bulls is a former,
A Brahman who is unable to win by valor
To get things done as he likes to his favor
Wins by tactics similar to cock coaxes and manages
To win the hen by approaching and embracing with one thigh,
A girl with beauty and knowledge is most fit for family life,
A person who has an efficient battalion of soldiers
Is an ideal commander for an army,
These are the messages said
by learned and experienced men.

O' my lovely moon!
O' my lovely moon!
In the garden of sky
You are blooming excellently;
In no man's land
You are roaming beautifully;
In between the clouds
You enter snugly without sounds;
While the cloud disappears
You peep silently and smile;
You stay in my heart
since my childhood part;
You get older and older every year
Your beauty never diminishes for ever;

Don't reserve the wealth for generations
If a person happens
to acquire wealth by RIGHTFUL means,
he should be generous to take food
- generated by ploughing his land
by oxen - with many guests and relatives!
However alert,
Wealth may not stay with one person with partiality,
It will move from person to person like a cart wheel!
(naalatiyaar - aRaththuppaal - selvam nilaiyaamai 2)
Hence, don't reserve the wealth for generations,
Help and utilise for charity, feed guests and relatives!

Insufficient water goes to the cultivating fields
While the High Officials
(Or) Political Leaders
plan for some projects,
the main idea is to fill their pockets
with a percentage of profits,
the Officials become fat and rich,
the funds for the schemes
go thin and lean;
As if the water from the main source
from the dams to the fields goes scarce,
The bunds on both sides of the channel
absorb the water in full; the insufficient
water goes to the cultivating fields
resulting in dry crops with poor yields.

Three qualities for pride of manhood!
Feeling shy while others praise exuberantly,
Bearing patiently while somebody speak of you indifferently,
Doing virtuous deeds to everybody like clouds pouring rains
without discrimination to anybody are the three qualities
for pride of manhood! (thirikatukam 6)
The present scenario is to influence people
to arrange for praising profusely and periodically,
critisizing persons who pinpoint their mistakes,
and doing things for their own benefits indirectly!

What is beautiful?
The breeze
That comes after a cyclone is beautiful;
The calmness
That comes after furious anger is beautiful;
The quietness
That comes after ferocity is beautiful;
The happiness
That comes after sorrow is beautiful;
The light
That comes after darkness is beautiful;
The victory
That comes after a defeat is beautiful;

It was not a good Omen
While the cat is feeling hungry,
it was proceeding In search of rats
and walked through the street,
A man was coming towards the cat,
Alas, it was not a good Omen,
It returned to its hiding place
to look for opportunities later.
(It is considered as a bad omen if a cat crosses your way in some countries like India)
(If you go for some important work, you can't get things done easily,
but in this case, the cat is looking for omen when it is going for rat hunt) .
