I Don’t Really Blame God
I’ve seen God smile
In autumn trees
After most of the leaves
Have fallen away to reveal him.
I told him, I love you,
But I’m lonely and sad
And in a cold place,
And I know that everything
I value will one day perish
Just like my elusive happiness.

I’ve Bought Flowers
You’re not far from this place,
But our separation is canyon-like.
Did you know I was grieved
For the sound of your voice
And the scent of your hair?
I’ve bought flowers
That I later tossed into the trash
Because I knew you would not accept them.

Broken Skull Tattoo
Hey cat-like eyes,
Let’s talk beside the river
When the moon is bright
I have a broken skull tattoo
And a lonely heart,
I don't know the difference
Between fantasy
And the truth
Wait for me
At the lovers’ bridge,
We’ll count rose petals
And kiss

Lonely and Lovely
Drinking beer in the city moonlight,
I’m lonely and lovely.
I’m tenderly in love,
Mostly with ghosts
Who have forgotten my face.
I dream of happiness
With the children I’ve failed to materialize.
God will see my kindness
And one day dry my tears.

Lonely Dreams
I meditate achingly
Her delicate lips
Slowly sipping
Elegant imported wine.
In lonely dreams,
I weep at night
Wishing my hands
Were upon her hips.
Lovely flowers
Blossom in the afternoon;
But while I linger
Unable to see her,
Nothing can make me happy.

Birthday Card
It is impossible to comprehend
How meaningful friends disappear,
I have a lifetime of flowers
To remember from when you were here.
I’m sending you a birthday card
To the unsearchable reaches of the universe.
Love has no end,
I know you will receive it.

A Little Girl Lost
Abandoned to sadistic streets,
A school room of sullen tears,
A little girl lost beneath
A blanket of rejection and fears
Moves slowly through
The lonely night;
The effects of drugs
Are wearing off…
And dawn has no promise
Of sunlight and pleasant songs.

Lonely Girl
I’m looking for a lonely girl
Depressed in the rainy Detroit night,
A shattered heart immune to candlelight,
Not susceptible to moonlight.
I need someone just like me,
Broken and on her knees,
Not believing in anything
But seeking salvation nonetheless.

You're Lost but Not to Reincarnation
Truck stops and donut shops
Litter the endless highway.
Taxis and planes
Transport you east and west.
At a bus terminal scattered with newspapers
But void of flowers,
We say our last goodbyes.
You will disappear like a dream
But I’ll remember your perfume.

I’m Sorry I Couldn’t Kiss You
The cat in the wintry yard
Shivered in the freshly fallen snow,
I picked her up and she purred.
Life should be gently reaching out
To offer the vulnerable
Warm embraces.
When you cried on the telephone
A thousand miles away,
I’m sorry I couldn’t kiss you.
