Slender Shoulders

Sidewalk in the rain,
I’m walking to her house
In the Sunday-overcast landscape
Of the lonely city
Trying to find sunlight
Through the mist
Of my longing heart
And ceaseless thoughts.

A weekend marathon
For a beautiful friend,
She runs for the hope
Of a new beginning;
Birds in the park
Along her path
Sing for her
Like I’ve sang for her.

Yesterday’s dream
Dissolves into myth

Read Me in a Quiet Place

A friend sleeps
In a midnight tree house
But I lie on my back
And count the dancing stars,
The illuminated souls
Drifting in timelessness.

There is so much suffering
Every day in the superficial rush
To measure time by success,
But I’ll return again
Thousands of years from now
After I’ve learned
To love and to smile.

I’ve known great artists
Who closed their eyes prematurely
At the zenith of their creativity,
And I’ve known children
Who’ve died in the crib

Psychic Crimes

Too terribly alone
In this friendless place,
I wish we could meet
In the city rain
By the bakery
And the bus stop;
Without you,
I feel depressed
And insane.

It seems crazy,
But the last time
I saw you,
I swear, there were
Crushed roses
In the sunset.

I stood
In the lakeside breeze
Following fondly

Life Is a Blessing

Whoever said life is a blessing,
Told a satanic lie!
You struggle
Until you die,
A soulless body,
Just a nose bleed to a society
Not wanting to know
The acne face of your failures.

I’ve been humbled
On heartless streets,
Dejected without deliverance,
Spending my affection
On household plants,
Whispering to unresponsive
Rose petals.

Unromantic parks!
Horse and carriages
Move in gloomy rain,

Everything Is Beautiful and Cool On a Friday Night

If you see me roaming Woodward Avenue
Down by the Majestic Theater,
I’ll be humming a song and digging the homeless,
Taking in the delicious aroma of pizza
Baking in the storefront,
Gazing at the young women and men
Drinking beer at outdoor tables
As conversations filter from the bowling alley.

I’ll laugh my ass off if a fight breaks out,
Everything is beautiful and cool on a Friday night,
Even the paramedics and cops smile
As their sirens wail and flash,
An old man takes his cane and smacks another
And it is all divine hi jinks
That a fun-loving God condones.

This city has been in decline for some time,
Dirty buildings and streets that often seem
Like a lonely ghost town,

Ghost Poetry

Ghost Poetry

By Uriah Lee Hamilton

I could kiss your wrists on a Saturday in the summer
Sitting by an apple tree in the park;
The warm breeze and sunlight on lush leaves
And the fragrance of peach conditioner in your hair,
It all makes me smile and believe in love.

One day, we will cease to exist.
Maybe long before that day,
Love and joy will have retreated
Distantly from our lives;

And thus, it so important and essential
To make it known this moment
The sweet innocent pleasure I receive
In telling you how special and meaningful
Everything about you is to me.

Jekyll and Hyde Psychology

My tongue is like a viperous snake
Waiting to latch onto a nervous victim
Who senses my evil mood of paranoid defensiveness
But still she walks slowly into the room.

Maybe she thought she knew me,
That I have a sweet smile, definitely a gentle man,
Maybe we could meet, exchange civility,
Later, that I would ask her out for a drink.

This is all Jekyll and Hyde psychology!
The slightest thing can set me spinning
Into a downward spiral of unrelenting depression:
Hearing a song on the radio
That meant something to me
When I was in love, could make me cry
Or fly ruthlessly off the handle!

She introduces herself and says,
“I’ve met your sister at church,

Orchid Garden

Erotic exhibitions of enticing flesh
May yet reduce me
To a tear-stained night
Of heart-wrenching confessions:

I was overwhelmed
By the pursuit of unrelenting obsession,
Holding her hand
In the orchid garden
Patiently awaiting her sunset kiss.

Her summery dress revealed
Milk-white shoulders dripping
Into majestic fountains
Of ecstatic pleasure and happiness.

I made her promises
In the hour of desire
To abandon my marriage bed
And sacred vows

Love Delirium

Joyously we kiss beneath the felicitous blue sky,
And then inside we follow the sensual aroma from scented candles
Drifting from an amorous room; the delicious taste of summer peaches
And slow musical dances create perfect situations for erotic embraces;
I’m alienated today from my formerly dark meditations,
My head is dreamily swimming like an Olympic athlete
Into pools of happiness and warm feminine flesh,
I confess an amazing lust extending from Helen of Troy
To every girl I ever saw as a small school boy,
And the moonlight is a sly conspirator
Falling softly into the eyes I kiss and miss when they depart
With my fragile heart still serenading them
With inarticulate palpitations of desire and love sensations;
When you’re with me next, I’ll unlatch the sexy ankle straps
To your adorable shoes freeing your gorgeous feet
And a magical breathtaking affair will commence.

Disappearance of Forests

I fear for the disappearance of forests
And if the song of birds should cease,
The desolate days when every path of wildflowers
Will be paved into further lonely streets,

Though sometimes I feel like the king
Among the abandoned elements of the urban decay,
Presiding over sad ruins of discontent
Where old ladies fill dusty decrepit pews
In prayer-quiet churches.

But what will children do
When they cannot drive far enough away
To find a sacred place void of billboards that scream
Inadequacies and addictions?

There may become a time when nothing remains
But empty beer bottles and despair,
When even simple pleasures like watching a woman
Brush her daughter’s hair on a summer picnic
