The Upper Hand
I crouch like a lion
Lurking for unsuspecting prey,
Patience is the key:
I’m willing to wait for eternity
For the tables to be turned,
To come into my own,
To taste the sweet wine
Of perfectly aged revenge…
Previously, I’ve filled my gullet
With humiliation,
I’ve been submerged
In the sewer of defeat.
The day is coming
When I will laugh like a hyena
And dance like a jackal
When I see those
Who organized
My supposed demise
Gazing at me like Lazarus

The First Lucky Boy to Kiss Your Virgin Breasts
Woman, you are the one who lingers
In my mind with aching tenderness,
But you are hidden in the distance,
Walking through the business world
With your stately shoulders
In a summer dress;
Your smile is brief and suggests
Inner-stirring ideas
For the moment suppressed.
Are your thoughts
All professional and money related?
Or do you drift
Into your young girl affairs
And the first lucky boy
To kiss your virgin breasts?
I would have been
That fortunate and karma-blessed boy
If circumstance and geography

True Angel
There should be shame
In judging too quickly
The prostitute or the banker;
The drug dealer or police officer,
The homeless man or the real estate agent;
Everyone is surviving with their damaged child within,
Sometimes hurting others but mostly wounding
Their own defenseless souls.
Everyone is in a dark room
Reciting prayers to become a person
With a sense of dedication
And a heart that cares,
Everyone is trying to discover
Their embryonic Jesus image
And birth their genuine spirituality.
Trust the healing universe
Which is the power of forgiveness;
Live as a friend to both the defeated

Leave a Prayer
During summer Saturday walks,
I notice the intricate design of flowers,
The majestic beauty that seems
To magically materialize
Before my eyes
And I smile.
Saturday evening downtown in the city,
I study the lonely men in seedy bars
And the homeless men roaming the streets
Like rickety cars,
And I feel the sadness of human defeat.
Sunday mornings I retreat to a parish church
Where a widow kisses the hand of a priest
And a grandmother scolds her granddaughter
For behaving inappropriately but with maternal sweetness
And then they embrace.
In every direction I turn my face,

Somehow, I've Never Really Been Mad At A Woman
I want to find God and meaning
On my own terms of arrogance and confusion,
For my love and devotion
To be precisely my own idea.
I want to enthusiastically
Run through the rain of this existence,
To embrace my suffering with a smile
To laugh in glee at all the darkness
Enveloping me.
Loneliness has been my companion
Down the pathways of this
Expedition of despair,
But she is a fine lady
Who never disappoints.
I no longer make use
Of any pretext of civility
When it comes to dealing with myself

Crawl On Broken Glass
Feel like I’m dead again
Because you hide again;
Why did I ever fucking care?
I knew you wouldn’t meet me there,
It’s cold loneliness unadulterated,
It’s a social winter freeze,
It’s a piss on a dirty abandoned street
Trash-littered and insane blizzard,
Rats eating a dead man’s fingers
In some forgotten snow-alley,
It’s being alone with no solutions,
Head crammed mindless confusion
Gazing with hatred into mirrors
Resolute with disgust,
A paranoid heart beating
A rhythm of fear and distrust,
I know the soulless human being
And the laughing jackal,
I told you there was nothing
I was after but a trivial smile

Rose-Petal Girl
Small flower, rose-petal girl,
I want to see you again
When a spring breeze gently blows
Through the budding trees.
Delicate one, unimaginably beautiful one,
I desire to touch the sun
As it tenderly kisses your hair;
You have made the world become
A valley of pleasurable dreams.
When I see you,
Life is the miracle of eternal youth;
I behave like a young boy
Who walks a girl home from school,
But is too shy to speak to her.
There is an endlessly dazzling blue sky
With gorgeous white clouds that hypnotize;
I could forever be in a trance

Anything I’ve Known of Her
Love finds a way to survive
Even through the desert of denial
And the abysmal distance of separation.
Two souls can learn to communicate
Using telepathic messages
And mystical transmissions of imagination.
When my heart has suffered
The unrelenting ordeal
Of not gazing into her eyes,
My memories merely grow stronger
For every romantic detail
Of her dazzling existence:
The way her hair sways
When she walks
And rests upon her shoulders
When she collects her thoughts
In the pensive moonlight,
The soft movements of her lips
When she smiles

I’ll Be Your Rogue With A Heart
Base creatures surround you
With cutting laughter
That pierces the soul
Like razorblades to the skin,
Such a lousy collection
Of manipulative friends! !
How can I shake you
From your depression and stupor?
How can I wake you
To see your divinity
That flowers within?
Sweetheart, you have to learn
Triumphant defiance,
You have to spit in the eyes
Of the deadbeats and creeps
Who plot your demise,
You have to fight like hell
To never be their cowering prize.

Repeatedly Kiss the Pillow
Brunette lady
With dark mysterious eyes,
You even mesmerize the moonlight
Falling softly upon you with love.
In a midnight garden, roses sleep
Like happy angels,
But you walk with a man
Kissing the nape of your neck,
Running his hand beneath your blouse
To touch your stomach in ecstasy.
The heavens are breathing romance,
Amorous gods and goddesses are disrobing,
The world is becoming intoxicated
With the wine of desire,
And you alone surpass them all
With your supple body of captivating dreams,
With the slightest movements of your breasts
Making every gazing man tremulous,
