When she dances
Bathed in a waterfall of moonlight,
I can see the gentleness
In her delicate eyes.
She’s often flirtatious
Evenings on a city balcony
Whispering seductively
Softer than a baby’s kiss.
She laughs holding her wineglass
While disco music plays on midnight dance floors,
And she’s completely the woman
All the breathless boys adore.
She deserves all this happiness and more,

She was a young sweet kid
Wearing a black choker
On her scrawny teenage neck
Living in a fatherless home
In close proximity to drugs,
Her lonely mother lost
In the pursuit of rent
On survival’s calamitous streets.
A lot of nearly emaciated girls
Link arms and bodies and souls
With the worse of dirty gangster boys.

Impalpable Hopefulness
I try to escape into the grace
Of her jewel-like eyes
As we walk through the grass
On a turquoise afternoon.
I supplicate the gentle spring breezes
To rhythmically sway her yellow dress
As the fragrance of first blossoms
Reinvigorates the earth,
My heart is happy in a blissful moment.
I wish to pluck impalpable hopefulness
Like the petals of a flower,
To cherish something that will last

What weary loneliness
When I'm swimming alone
In such dreadful weather at dawn.
