Zen Galaxy
Li Po liked to drink
Beneath the intoxicating moon
And write illuminating poetry
More translucent than a thousand stars
Dancing like ecstatic dervishes;
Han Shan wrote poetic wisdom
On trees and roadside rocks
Still surviving in the Zen galaxy
Of beautiful truth.
These days of endless pain
May yet create flower gardens
And illustrious bouquets.

Loving Everything Like Mother Teresa
Blue city swimming in irreproachable dreams,
Walking in the nighttime rain,
No despair on midnight streets,
No judgment calls on drunks vomiting
Sweetly in the gutter
Like saints for a new age,
Neon laughter on the corners,
Prostitutes in love,
Sorrow exiting in strange taxis,
I’m more ghost than poet
But you will see my invisible smile.

Warped Happiness
Cut skin,
Matching Tattoos,
Alluring night,
Tantalizing moon,
Friends were on drugs
Sauntering down
The summer avenues,
Hands clasped tightly
By romantic youths
With sexual aspirations!
We made promises
To each other
Amid the madness
To remain
Tragically in love
And never change,
I wish we would have died
Back then
In our warped happiness.

Love Never Enters a Casket
The stars will shine
Like an autumn night
The evening of your birthday
And heaven will offer you
Benevolent gifts.
The moonlight and wine
Will sparkle in your eyes
And you will feel the love
You’ve sought since fragile childhood.
The impression of my kiss
Will grace your cheek
Even if destiny and fate
Take me away
From the realm of the living.

God at the Bus Stop
Walking at midnight
Fragile in the rain,
I watch the streetlamps sway
And the headlights gleam
Along the lonely avenue.
Feeling alone
As the gentle poems
Drift in and out
Of dark bars
And all-night
Party store parking lots,
I write my soul
On the page of the city.
Everything is salvation
Mingled with sadness;
I wait for God at the bus stop.

Drunk With Poetry
Smile like a princess, Sunflower,
By the apple-orchard lake.
The dreams that dance in your eyes,
I’m certain, my heart they will break;
But I don’t mind crying in the moonlight
Drunk with poetry like the great Li Po.
I wish I could lay my head
On your long, yellow skirt;
I’d fall asleep for eternity
And forget that I’ve ever been hurt.

Goth Mascara
You secretly cut yourself
With razor blades,
In every way misbehave.
You roam dangerous streets
At night with unholy men
Who supply you with drugs
For promiscuous favors;
And those fiends you count as friends!
You act tough for a little girl,
But sweetheart,
I’ve seen your Goth mascara
Run with tears.
Please, find love
And save your soul.

Queen of Dreams
When the Queen
Of mysterious dreams
Visits an hour
Before the dawn,
Her purpose
Is to impart
An important message
That will alter
The destiny
Of a troubled heart.
When I saw you
At sunrise
With sleep
Slipping from your eyes,
You had already been
Lying in my arms
In another world,
And soon you will understand

July
Girls walk slowly
In the sunshine,
And an old man
Is arranging flowers
At the floral shop.
My best friend Luna
Has on a yellow skirt
And smiles sweetly
At the cops.
I never want
July to end,
Everything is exciting
And unimaginably hot.
The stars will dance
When the sun is not
Any longer in the sky.

My Friends Look Like King Herod
I wish there was nothing
But pretty death
Because friends disappear
Like casual breath;
There should be daggers
Flying from ancient graves
To kill passionless slaves
Selling trinkets of precious memories
Like they were dime-store casualties!
Corpses should cover the ground
Like hungry seagulls at the beach,
There is no love,
Merely eternal defeat!
