Magical Saturday Afternoon

I want to kiss your arms
On a park bench in the sunlight,
They’d be sweet and warm,
Life would begin to feel right.

Then we’d walk along a lazy street
To purchase ice-cream cones,
Everything you talked about
Would be as lovely as a melody.

This would all take place
On a magical Saturday afternoon.

Daughter of a Pretty Age

As the night twists
Unhappily like a knife
Into a vital organ,
All I can do is ask
Where is my daughter
Of a pretty age?

I’m cloaked in despair
And filled with rage.
I wish I could
Hold her hand
And talk in a secret place,
But I remember,
I’m childless
And finishing my course
In infinite loneliness.

Tracing the Silhouette of Her Body in My Mind

What god has tossed my soul
Upon this stormy path
Of lonely longing unfulfilled?

I live incensed
At my own existence
Every sunset dusk
That she walks away
In another’s arms.

I drive furiously
The boulevards of jealousy
And weep on midnight streets
Of perfumed rejection
Lost in the fragrance
Of her scarf!

My Heart Breaks But I’m You’re Man

I’ll kiss you
In another reality
Where the stars croon
Like a 1920’s singer.

Fantasy dances
In my eyes tonight,
Roses form wedding rings
And everywhere
There is a chapel
With open doors….

You know I love you,
Every myth is true,
There will never be
Greater lovers
Wandering these rainy streets again.

Such A Lovely Couple

I’m going to find a Persian cat
To live in my house and take a nap,
To calmly sit and smile on the windowsill
While gazing at sparrows singing beneath
A maple tree;
I need this type of company
When I’m lonely in the afternoon
And there’s no one to see
And nothing to do,
We’d make such a lovely couple.

The Note

Sometimes
When a woman
Is justifiably angry
And refuses to see
A man’s face,
The man will plead
With a friend of hers
To intercede for him,
To understand this is
The last extremity of need.

I would buy
Roses every day for a month
For her best friend
To merely bring her
A note that reads,
“I’m sorry.”

The power you pray to
In the dark windswept night
Of fear and defeat
Will guide your faltering steps
Until you've reached
The sunrise dawn of destiny.

There resides within the heart
The spiritual resilience
To ever renew the beginning
Of your soul's existence
And to become a person worthy
Of inner self-admiration

Will I ever find you again
My lost and lovely friend
In this dark world
That conspires against love?

Once, we were sweet drunkards
Kissing in the rain,
Winding our way to a bookstore
To buy a thesaurus.

I’ll dance alone tonight
Clutching a dictionary
And dreaming about
Your shoulder tattoo,

Dark Girl

One day,
Dogs will laugh
In the streets,
And we’ll kiss wildly
Like lunatics
Escaping the asylum.

You’re a dark girl
So I’m painting
My roses black,

And I’ll murder the sun
If he ever turns his back.

I would rather
Enter the palace of your pain
Than continue to exist
In the prison cell of my loneliness.

Permanent Goodbyes

Relaxation breath
The prayerful dawn,
Dreams return
To the ether
And leave reality behind.

I toast dusty memories
With a smooth beer at dusk,
I try to discover
My lost child-like charm
And heart of trust.

It is wonderful to come home
And not cry,
But I know,
There will be long departures
And permanent goodbyes.
