Random Thoughts

Honestly, I don't have any strong opinions anymore.
I'm not passionate about anything in my old age,
and I suppose that I don't really care
what your opinion of things is either
because circumstances never stay the same
making you have to reposition yourself eventually.
In other words, why even bother arguing and pretending
as if we are certain of things
that have some sort of invisible seismic force
swaying the ground under our feet?
So the bottom line is
don't waste my time telling me
everything you think you're sure of
unless you are capable of respecting
what I don't know.
You wanna know what I really care about?
What I REALLY care about is
that no one has invented a preventative
to those little gnats
hovering over my wine glass as I write this.

Let Me Die Upon The Sea

Let me die upon the sea
to reincarnate as a wave
beryl blue and fearless
undulating in my grave
Where I shall be as boundless
as the energy within
and I will know not
where I ended or where I began

Let me die upon the sea
calamitous, dangerous,
full of power, beauty, worth
So that I will be remembered
Forget the spongy earth!
Land is not for me
But oh, the mighty sea!
I wrestle with it every night
inside in my dreams

Let me die upon the sea

The Screamy Meanies

Each night the screamy meanies come
To kick me wide awake
They spit on me and yank my hair
Poke me with three pronged stakes
They torment without mercy
Till I’m drenched in my own sweat
They think it’s rather funny
And they live under my bed
One’s name is Anorexia
One’s name is Latex Sex
One’s name is You’re a Loser and one’s
Pills That You Ingest
One’s You’re a Dirty Liar and one’s
Your Extremely Vain
One’s You Like to Play with Fire
Till it Burns you With it's Flame
One’s You Should Read Your Bible More
One’s You Are Such a Fool
The One whose names Judgmental
Thinks he’s consummately cool

Valentines Day

Once a year a day comes
On the calendar of time
That marks just one of many
I would hope to make you mine
For most it conjures visions
That begin only in part
Of Cupid slinging arrows
Through his intended victims heart
It's candy, cards, and flowers
That are touched by morning dew
And other sweet surprises
Full of love they might renew
It's pink champagne and candlelight
And gazing at the moon
A kiss with all the passion
That would cause a girl to swoon
It's all these things and many more
And what they're meant to be
But none nearly important as
The words that you love me

Where Caddo's Walked

The forest was an insect mix of salad hues
Emerald green, lime, beige and brown
against an upward sky of blue
A canopy of secrets
where copper toned girls whirled
their babes on hips,
and birdsong sang in the treetop tips
Frogs and toads jumped in the streams
flirt chirping sounds exhaled on breeze,
and raven haired ghosts
beat rhythm drum thrones
that begged to suck the life from marrow bones
And then, as dusk began to fade,
into the village, out of the shade
they'd gather as community and feast
murmuring their feathered history
in white tailed tongues
while dancing 'round the fires ring they rung
Then padding back to huts making their fists
to taste a puffy lipped sweet water kiss

Know it All

How does it feel to know it all?
I'm curious, do tell
To be so arrogant enough
The rest can go to hell
It must be nice up on your throne
You intellectual snob
To think the worlds so black and white
And we are but it's dogs.

It must be nice to know it all
Forgive, but I must ask
Ever lose an argument?
No, no. There's not a chance
When others bow and kiss your feet
The hem that trims your robe
Does your huge ego jump for joy
On top but all alone?

It must be nice to know it all
The rest of us so small

Words

Words on this paper
Words in my head
Words while I'm texting
Computing
Unsaid
Words between people
Words on the phone
Words upon words
Even when I'm alone
Words from the Bible
I question
Don't mesh
Words from pornography
Making them flesh
Words with flat letters
Written in black
Good words and bad words
You cannot take back
Words that are shallow
Words that are deep

Grandad and Hannah

Oh how he loves Hannah
It surely does show
From the top of her head
To her tee-niney toes.
She'll sit on his lap
And won't she be glad
When he asks who she loves
She can say 'You Grandad! '
Then Hannah leans over and gives Burb a kiss
But makes sure it's something that Grandad won't miss
It's part of the game
To taunt and to tease him
But deep in her heart
She knows it to please him
Then Grandad looks wounded
'Don't waste kisses! ' he'll shout
'Save 'em all up for me! ', then he puffs up and pouts
But she giggles and gives him a sweet sideways glance
Revealing the love that makes his heart dance
And we round the table can just watch with wonder

Rocking Bonnie

Bonnie and me in the rocking chair
Hours go by and we don't care
Time can come and go as it may
We'd sit in the chair and rock all day

Pachelbel Canon on the stereo
In time we rock back to and fro
The rocking chair making a creakedy squeak
Dreamy sounds that put her to sleep

She's in a heap across my chest
Comfy and cozy, peaceful, at rest
I kiss the top of her head and her hair
She smells like roses petals wafting on air

More time passes, she's still asleep
Laundry and dishes will have to keep
As soon as I stop she frets a bit
I'll just wear the rocker legs off of it

Only a Year

A tawny brown fawn on rickety legs
Had eyes showing wonder and awe
His first day on earth, he suckled and nursed
The one that was known as his Ma

His tail twitched excitedly, and oh so delightedly
They romped and they roamed through the morn
He knew that she loved him-would teach and protect him
How happy he was to be born

When innocence waned and spiked antlers came
He ventured the woods on his own
Nervous, yet bright, he'd put up a fight
To survive lack of food and the cold

Then natures call sounded, and in him rebounded
An urge to seek company near
He marked and he rubbed-he sparred other nubs
While seeking his doe of a deer
