My Lover Rain

My lover rain knocks droplets at the window
Visiting to quench my desert thirst
Streaming liquid tips where lines and furrows
Are tied in knots and boxed with worry burst

He grumbles with rolled bowling sounds
To come inside and scare me from my gloom
By strobing blue electric where he grounds
And crack the bulb out in my lonely room

Then leaks beneath doors threshold on his own
Filling all my cavities with life
Washing each sick sin I've ever sown
With lavender and mint and rinsing twice

Then quietly he leaves me with my fat hair
And humid long kissed skin that's dewy sweet
I hardly realized that he was there
So sad before I knew next time we'd meet

Positive Positivity~An Acrostic

Positive Positivity
Oftentimes I've been guilty of not seeing the
sunny side. The river is flowing around me but
I'm not a part of it. It happens to the best of us~
The attitude we're stuck in a logjam & life could
improve. We may have been
victimized by our family or friends. It's
easier to place the blame on others.
People are not meeting our expectations,
or giving us the respect we think we deserve.
Still, who is REALLY
in control of our mindset?
Those thoughts that we are empowering?
Isn't the direction of thought our choice?
Verily!
If you are strong enough, and wise enough
to change them from bad to good
you'll take sunshine with you wherever you go!

The Swan ~ A Villanelle

Floating upon the crystal pond
She kept wearing her diamond crown
While the other white swan was gone

Never doubting their fierce loving bond
As the leaves went from reddish to brown
Floating upon the crystal pond

Her blue eyes searching far beyond
Couldn't see that he'd recently drowned
While the other white swan was gone

So curling, becoming withdrawn
When ten suns in the sky settled down
Floating upon the crystal pond

She talked to the geese that were blond
And asked where he was with a frown
While the other white swan was gone

A Lake Someplace

Speak to me
thee wet and lonesome lapping waves
Outrun evaporation of your grave
along this chiseled limestone shore
where you have passed
through distant bygone doors
Across the lake,
where terra cotta porticos stand tall
and dark eyed maidens wait for men to call
with servant hearts,
and apron strings
expecting all the good things life might bring
Explain to me the mystery of this place
The air is still,
the sun upon my face
weathering whiskered old men
leathered and tanned
who sell fresh fish from a wooden stand
Pausing to smell the cedars high on the hill
that long for a breath of winters chill

Buddy Bear

'Buddy Bears Feelings'
A soft cloth book
Is Bonnie's best plaything
By hook or by crook
If handed a rattle
Or teething ring toy
There's only dull interest
And simply no joy
But Buddy Bear brings
Everyday and each night
A look of excitement
And squeals of delight
The pages inside
On the bottom and top
When put in the mouth
Go snap crackle pop
On page three there's a mirror
We can see someone in
Who is that reflection?
It smiles back again!

Adrift

Long gone lost offshore
in the shark infested gore
He sails away
The tow line slips out of my hand as I reach for it
Epirb battery dead
Cherries and oranges setting overhead
I shrink, too ashamed
to call out his Holy name
God forsaken me with calloused knees
I'd rather drown
and sink down into the roar.
Hunger and thirsting for rescue I'm left behind
When He says,
'Help yourself first and I'll save you second'
The gulls are laughing
Three hundred and sixty degrees a blue bath of wrath
I ask it how it came to be
'I was here before the apes swung in the trees' the reply
Too late now for answers to the questions that I seek
What have I learned before I close my eyes into the deep sleep?

The Trail

The trail in the Winter is lonely
The loneliest place I know
But the trail is the place that I go to
When my troubles I can't let go
The howl of the wind keeps me company
And it's stiff cold slap on my face
Awakens me to the moment
A moment that is filled with God's grace
I remember the sweet smell of Summer
The colors still fresh on my brain
But the odors and colors of Summer
Are replaced by the dampness and rain
Yet the pull of the trail is a strong one
And nothing could keep me away
Not ten pots of gold and a promise
That it all could be mine someday
'Cause the trail is my church and my temple
And no greater peace can be found
Than the peace and the glory around me
That in the forest abounds

Snake Dance

I was at the table eating God with little white asters
As carefree as the smell of salt
And time was as seamless and sane as an ocean breeze
I looked out the window carelessly
Where Babylon performed her snake dance
And promised me lies you would not keep
She said you loved me yummy
And would stay until I was full and warm
And trembling I dove into the glass
Where all my winters turned to spring
The poppies along the way glowed
Like the sparks from chimneys
Tomorrows turned into yesterdays
When we were young and sleepy
And dreams dripped thick honey on us
While bees hummed around my mail skirt
But lo, we both died fools departing
Where isolation mocks us now
At the end of each day in moonlit sonatas

The Sleep Tree

The tall sleep tree
dreamt that she could be
an Olympian in the shed.
With firm roots planted deep
like thick giant feet,
but the sky fell down
on her head.
And an unknown blight
screwed its sin way in
at the base of her
rich earthen bed;
while the healthy bark that
was alive grew thin,
and the bible was
all that she read.
But the blight was bad
and to her chagrin
other sleep trees to
which she was wed;
couldn't help for they

It's Only Text

Your abc's tethered me
Soft and subtle at first
Exes and ohs from another dimension
quietly prodding for attention
A gentleman, I visualized
The Wuthering Heights type
laying down your nouns for me to step on
evolving into cryptic codes and acronyms
I slipped on
But then, Emoticons!
Those little frowns and smiles
transmitted miles and miles to show you cared
Something Alexander Graham Bell
would never have anticipated
We read each other across the gulf
with words that were exclaimed
and punctuated by long gaps of silence
only serving to intensify and solidify our matrix
The el em en oh pees
making us both weak in the knees
