Sara Fielder

Shall We Dance?

Come eventide I dance alone
at my estate on marbled stone
the boney waltz
Come join me where
this place of glass won't break
unless I tell it to...
I know it's new to you
Relax,
I'll sprinkle diamonds in your hair
and wear a scarlet velvet train that trails
behind my mortuary feet
and sweetly touch you on your cheek
I'll sing soprano
down your throat and force
strawberry flavors up your nose
And when the reaper comes
we'll strike a frozen pose
so he will think us dead
and go back home

Bound

I place your words in my mouth
roll them around with my tongue
trying to taste each syllable
Savor each flavor
like a perfectly grilled steak
They fill up my cup with trust
I run my fingertips over each letter's curve
Undressing them with my eyes
and suck the life out of them
They stoke the fire within me
Bring me back to life
Break though my pain
Make me feel I might love again
And right before I fling off
the casket lid
the smell of my rotting flesh
reminds me that
I am being mauled by lies.

Down At The Roxy

I saw my reflection in the glass table top
down at the Roxy wearing too much mascara.
Your fingertips branding me awake
when our song played.
I feasted on your hot breath and
controlled movements upon the waxed tile,
stimulated by the black tie and her perfume.
My plastic hands reached
into your dinner jacket for a mint,
discreetly placing the twenty
within the satin folds.
It was the bands last set,
and it was right on the tip of my tongue.
But I just knew you tasted like gin and strychnine.

Elastic Hours

Lick the potash with contempt
I'm made into

A silent frown of balled up yarn
and wood grain

My cold hands stretch these elastic hours
into days that pass
two at a time

I lie around
trying to make sentences and love myself

Contaminated by tinnitus
As expectant

as a dog wearing uncontained excitement

Ceteris Paribus

At the end of the day when I contemplate, it's highs, it's middles and lows
I find myself neither smiling, or moaning a song of woe

I do not feel disappointment when I fall and break a wing
I'll tarry for just one moment, till resolve calls me back to the Thing

And when there are Hallelujahs and the mass of Creation applauds
All things being equal, in the crowd there are certainly frauds

When you string them fully together; The good, the neutral, the bad
It's easy forgetting to remember whatever it was that you had

Hello

Yesterday each step smelled like perfume
Plumeria and harvest rose in bloom
In present moment
Dreams
They look ahead
No fear of future fate
No future dread
We don’t look back, we only look ahead
Until the end
And we are nearly dead
And emptiness ‘round corner comes to view
Or with some luck
Perchance there’s something new
And with one kiss
We say to earth Goodbye
And hope our fleshly pains
Are but mellow
And when at once we meet that Godly eye
We can embrace with heartfelt love
Hello

Mr. Morning

Dawn's personage sheds its nightcap
in sleepy slow motion,
like a child too tired to rise out of his bed
when cold air sneaks in
under the covers.
But,
the sun's warm woolen slippers
nudge the way toward
a brand new day,
and after shaving clean with winter cream,
he rouses fully to
select the clothes he'll wear…
that blue plaid shirt that fades to grey
with yesterday's
yellow workpants
showing off his flamboyance.
Picking up his landscape lunchbox,
he heads out the door
singing a song that is as serene
as the ocean is vast.

Us And We

Once
I saw a tree breathe
Her leaves were scorched by draught
and the hot August breeze
The bark crumbling off
where ants were taking advantage
Their mandibles stinging
into the white flesh beneath
I began spraying her with water
when without thinking
I heard myself speak audibly
'There now, I hope that makes you feel better.'
And then the frequency of our energies
became combined
in rhythmic communication
as the lines began to blur
between being human
and being tree
When then a bird landed on us
and we were three

Shallow Girl

I saw you in the marketplace
You cast a downward eye
Pretending to buy produce
And not notice I'd walked by
I wanted to say something
As you studied Bartlett pears
Cause in my mind I knew you knew
That I was shopping there
How difficult would it have been
To smile and say hello?
Not lingering to say too much
So grass would therefore grow
Under our feet except that we
The niceties had met
Required in society
A simple, easy debt
But all along you acted like
Most people always do
Like you had never seen me
Superficial and untrue

Crem de la Crow

When I was black and lacy in the center of your soul
and you were liquid poison in my blood
I unfolded into a dark center of satin
Where spiders spin their silver threads
Each one pliable and overlappling
We formed a private world
where I spilled myself all over you with all I had
until I forgot who I was
And grace vaporized into a mist of sorrow
I could barely breath through the smoke
of the wildfire that grew out of control
Finally burning down to charcoal ashes
And when it rained
and washed them all away into the drain
I crawled down there
to make a castle out of them
