I do a job I really, really love and I kind of have fun with. People think you can't be grown up unless you're moaning about your job.

I hardly ever listen to any of our old stuff now. Once the songs have been recorded and put on to vinyl they become someone else's entertainment, not mine.

I'm not going to worry about the Cure slipping down into the second division; it doesn't bother me because I never expected to be in the first division anyway.

But everyone I know reaches a point where they throw out their arms and go beserk for a while; otherwise you never know what your limits are. I was just trying to find mine.

Like I can't cry for myself so I will let this song take all of the things inside I can't let anyone else see and offer it up, as if the sound were some kind of god, and my pain is some kind of sacrifice.

I never answer if someone knocks on my door and only the band and my manager have my phone number. In any case my phone doesn't ring so I never notice it. I occasionally just walk past and pick it up to see if anyone's there.

Knowing that everything's futile but still fighting, still raging against the dying of the light -- that's what motivates me all the time ... If you hold that sense of futility in your head for too long, it can begin to eat into you. You can still be aware of it but find a place for it where you can actually exist comfortably and enjoy things.

Feeling Like Mike Hammer
I feel like Mike Hammer after the third or
fourth attack by a gunman in one day, I
feel all fatigued and evil, finding the noise
in my downtown Chicago just too much;
I need the care of an electrifying beauty
to restore me to my macho bravery
I want to solve this crime so I can reach
the last page and take a momentary
break before the next attacker come
again, I want to feel the joy of seeing
how the criminal pointing his gun at me
is gunned down himself by the hair-trigger
Rifle of the skeleton who had been killed
by him thirty years ago, then turn to Velda,
my life’s love, and show her where is
paradise…

Evil Laughter
On thing I admire, nay two things
always strike me as admirable:
The way evil characters always
laugh with total happy abandon
About their plots to overthrow the
world, and the way they always
love their cats, mostly white with
blue eyes – given the importance
Of joyous laughter in our lives,
people having pets living longer,
healthy lives - this phenomenon
is deserving of attention
I am thinking of a scheme to overthrow
the world so I can throw back my head
to laugh long and hard and happily,
Hollywood has this down pat
